Mantis Question

I really love this ride. It's quite intense.
Anyone else think that the stand up portion of it is not the important anymore, especially with the way people can't seem to understand the "stand up while loading" instructions. My idea would be to change it into a sit down coaster, probably floorless since they have Maverick now.

Yeah I wish it was floorless. No more painfull stadup rides.

I don't like Mantis at all, but I do agree that it's intense. It's always so painful for me. The stand-up trains just make it worse. It's been discussed to death, and most people agree that floorless trains would probably be better.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

It would be a really boring floorless though. That's why I would never want to change it. Atleast this way it has the stand-up gimmick.

A floorless with no cobra roll, no zero-g roll, and probably less forces than most other floorless coasters? Snooze.... They should just relocate Dominator to CP (ha ha ha).

I'm much rather see Iron Dragon get Vekoma suspended floorless trains than Mantis.

^^ Haha. Finally another person that believes Dominator is quite boring. As said above, this topic has really been discussed to death, and I highly doubt that CP would ever make such a major change. And I think the ride would be just as painful (the transitions, etc) with floorless trains, and I don't think it would be any more thrilling.

Thrills Around the Corner!

Actually I happen to think it would be a good ride with Floorless trains. Definitely better or more bearable then the stand-up version. Not to mention that the capacity would shoot up, and they could almost market it as a new coaster.

Will it happen? No. I would definitely ride it more than once per trip though.

I have never found Mantis to be painful at all. I actually enjoy it very much in the front. I guess I'm just different.

I've ridden Mantis in the front, back, and numerous seats in the middle, and I am yet to find a place where I'm comfortable. I think one's experience on Mantis has more to do with body size than most other coasters because of the stand-up trains. It could just be my smaller size that makes it a painful ride for me. I might be wrong in saying that, it's just a thought.

No, the ride wouldn't be any more thrilling with floorless trains, but it would be more comfortable. Though Dominator is not the most thrilling coaster in the world, I've always found it to be a lot easier to ride than Mantis is.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

Mantis is a great ride. I don't find it painful at all either. If you find it painful don't ride it or ride it right. Don't say all the crap about tear it down it sucks blah blah.

Y'all gotta be kidding me! I think Mantis is a horrible ride. I think the last time I rode it was in 2002, and it still was just as bad as when it first opened.

Dominator is so much better, even though it's like comparing apples to oranges. But still, one poster brought it up and I felt I had to comment on it. (Of course, I have to admit, I am quite partial to Geauga Lake though.)

I rode it once last year, and it just gets worse and worse for me. Maybe I'm just getting old. I'll probably never ride it again.

I love mantis. Cedar point will't not tear down mantis. mantis didnot sucks.

Maybe it would be too complicated but they could have both types of trains. I don't really like the ride stand up either.

I always thought the idea of standing up was to feel more vulnerable, but the restraints are so huge and boxed in, the only point of standing up seems to be to make your feet hurt.

Being smaller can make it more uncomfortable. (I'm 5' 5" and 105 pounds) Especially on the outside. There are two Maverick-esque turns that totally lift me up and then throw me to the side, and suddenly I slam back down.
On the inside, it still happens, but not as bad. I had worse rides on Raptor than Mantis this year, if anything. :(

I'm tired of this thread, and I feel like I've seen it many times before, and I've only been here a bit more than a year. I refuse to touch the floorless topic though.

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

I absolutely love Mantis. It's a little uncomfortable on the legs at times, but in my opinion it's very much worth it. I love how loud the train is as it goes through the course, and the inversions are awesome. Floorless or stand-up, I'm happy either way.

I'm just under 5'2" and the restraints have me bashing my head around every turn. Raptor never hurts me like Mantis does, even though it has some uncomfortable moments too.

And responding to the "if you don't like it, don't ride it" comment, I won't in the future. It's the worst coaster in the park, IMHO. But some people do love it, and for that reason it will most probably stay at the park for years to come.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

I actually do think that Mantis is one of the worst rides in the park. Its definitely the worst major coaster. It would really be even a lot better if they just added some padding to the restraints.

Thrills Around the Corner!

^ I agree. Padded restraints might make a good bit of difference. Not enough to spare it from the "Painful Ride" list, though.

This might sound odd, but I always feel like I nearly black-out on Mantis at several points. Ive started riding it less and less each year.
