Yea Micheal Darling...thats definatly primer, They wouldnt scrape all the paint off a roller coaster...it would take so long.

With This New coat of paint, will it make the ride any smoother?

They wouldnt paint that rails the wheels run on though would they?

No,you usually don't paint where the wheels are. I would think it would gum them up. Look at the track from Intamin closely, you can see stripes where it was masked off during painting where the wheels make contact with it.

Yes, you do usually paint the rails. Look at Raptor. The paint actually seemed to improve the performance of the ride. Look at Iron Dragon, Corkscrew, Magnum, Disaster Transport (well trough), need I go on?

I don't know if Mantis will be any smoother, but it should be faster because of less friction. They will paint the Mantis rails red.

On MF, they painted on a non-slip type of paint wherer the wheels run on them. This white strip has appeared on all Intamins since, that I know of.

Every B&M I can think of in the past two or three years has had painted rails. Given the rust on Mantis, and formerly on Raptor, I'm sure they'll paint them. Have you seen the old Batman clones? They look terrible.

Yea thats true Jeff, Those Batman clones are so Rusty and LOUD. The Older B&M's at SFGadv are all So loud and the paint is so nasty. They definatly need to repaint them.

Gravity

The paint has absolutely nothing to do with how loud the coaster is. That's due to the hollow track.
