Mantis floorless

O.K. This is very random but I've been thinkin' this for too long and it's probably just as well I post it somewhere where people will know what I'm talking about.
Mantis had to cut too two trains because loading and unloading of the standup trains is so difficult. It still remains the hardest coaster to keep interval on despite running just two trains. The lines remain very long and slow for a coaster that alot of people say is "painful".
I have a suggestion... order new floorless trains and run them backwards. If you have a decent coaster simulation program, ride mantis backwards, it's almost as if this is what the layout was designed for, and it's not just because you're traveling backwards (the same effect doesn't work as well on other rides). If they don't want to retrofit the station with a drop away platform I'm sure they could use the standard trains just tilt the seats back a bit perhaps to get your feet off the ground.
I've given this a go on simulator and the G's seem fine.
I'm tellin' ya... the ride would be so cool this way.
So what are the reasons not to do this. Waist of time? Would it not be enough of an incentive for returning guests as something new in the upcomming season? I really believe this would not only solve at least two difficulties with the ride (interval and complaints) it would also enhance the ride experience.
Would anyone care to comment?

Mantis is definately not one of my favorites. And I've often wondered what it would be like with different trains. The engineering/center of gravity for the ride is specifically for stand up trains.

There are quite a few topics about this already...there's been a lot of talk about the possibility. Here's one link below. If you do a search you'll see a lot more.

Okay, think about this. You ever see those cartoons where there on a cliff, and they walk over it? What happens when theres NOTHING below them?

Same Concept.

O.K. I thought about the comment above. What concept? He's not talking about having them go trainless. I don't understand what it has to do with his post.

I was wondering the same thing... thought I was missing something there.

I read the post from 2002 that Scott posted. For one, I think Mantis needs to stay how it is. Also, we should stop making these anti-Mantis threads. I like Mantis. Let Mantis be Mantis and stop accusing it of being a crappy coaster because it tries its hardest to please us. Like on a post I once read, we're riding roller coasters here, not Cadillacs.

Tries its hardest? Then why on earth does it shake RATTLE and roll like an earthquake?!

:P

Mantis could easily make interval if every time it didn't have to load a bunch of retards who don't know how to stand up.

Personally I like Mantis and don't want it changed, except to maybe kick people out of the park who don't stand up when told to.

I certainly don't hate the ride...just not a favorite of mine. I like that they offer a stand up because they're hard to come buy and it gives a different ride experience. Yes, it's nice to imagine what the ride would be like with different trains. But, I'd rather they leave it as is and offer us a new ride type.

I don't consider myself a retard but I (and a bunch of other Cedar Point employees) had a difficult time the first time I rode Mantis. It isn't as easy as getting in and sitting down in an Arrow looper.

Why is Cedar Point unlikely to put sit-down trains on Manits? ROI (Return On Investment). The amount of money it would cost to replace the trains could be spent on another attraction that would bring more people and money than new trains on Manits.

Now, I will say that when Mantis first opened, it was one of my favorite rides in the park. Now, I can hardly stand to ride it. For some reason, I don't really know why, I don't enjoy the ride anymore.

I agree with Chief about the trains of Manits. Another issue I think creates a problem is that if you stand up completely straight, once the ops lock you in, you might be in for a painful ride. I know that I make sure that I'm not standing perfectly straight up, so that when the "seat" does get locked in, I still have an inch or two between the seat and my ability to father children.

I've only once made the mistake of getting the seat nice and snug, cause that coaster is just a wee bit too rough, and gives the sensation of constantly getting kicked in the junk, which is slightyl unpleasant.

I'm a new poster, but a longtime reader for this site. And I also don't understand the "I Hate Mantis" threads. I enjoy the ride the way it is. If you know what to expect and how to ride it, it's not a big deal. And yes, there's some pressure on Jack Johnson and Tom O' Leary, but it's not going to do any permanent damage.

Don't you mean James Westfall and Dr. Kenneth Noisewater?

I admit, I do LOVE B & M Floorless coasters. But Mantis is what it is. I have learned how to exit the ride "pain-free". Now I admit, I am not one to wait a half hour for that ride, but if it were a walk-on, I would ride it.

Cedar Point, Americas rip- rockin', high flyin', sky defyin', record breakin' roller coast

My theory is: You shouldn't have to "learn" how to ride a ride in a certain way so it doesn't hurt.

I can never see CP putting floorless trains on Mantis. Them saying, "Mantis is now a sit down roller coaster and less painful," will not bring more people to the park. A more cost effective thing they could do if they wanted to improve the ride experiance, is to add some extra padding to the restraints, like on Iorn Wolf at SFGAm.

Thrills Around the Corner!

So you don't just get on and sit down? ;)

Mantis has always been the one coaster at CP that hurts me no matter how I adjust the seat. But, I continue to ride. I guess the B&M awsomeness just overrides the pain factor. Maybe I just like pain? :P

BTW, how does Mantis compare to King Cobra, pain-wise? I never got to ride it before PKI took it down. :(

Water is involved
R.I.P: The Mayor, Mr. Scott

Heres an idea lets make a swap with Geauga Lake. Cedar Point can have Mantis and we'll take Dominator. What do yall think of that? That would be Sweet. Mantis doesn't really compare to King Cobra at all. King Cobra was a two seated stand-up coaster. Mantis is a 4 seater Stand-up and can do more things such as inversions, and dives. My question is how much work would they have to do to make the switch? Wouldn't they have to make a change to the track as well?

I assume by "Simulator" the poster means "Roller Coaster Tycoon" which is a real accurate simulation, lemme tell ya.
