Perhaps this should be a topic for the MF forum instead, I don't know. Clearly this is no big deal, but the Winter 2000 issue of the NW Ohio/Michigan ACE Regional News just arrived, and it mentions that the Mantis entrance is being relocated next to the photo booth.
Is there any particular reason for this? To avoid the railroad crossing closings? To prevent overcrowding at the "pinch" in the Frontier Trail entrance now that MF is there? Etc.
No big deal; just wondering if anyone has an idea why this move is happening.
Hmmmm... not sure if it actually is. Last time I was there the big Mantis sign wasn't moved. Frankly, I don't see how you would move the entrance with the placement of the diving loop.

There is that employee path that cuts from near the photo booth under the dive loop to the current entrance. Mayhaps they're putting a connector to the switchbacks there so the entire MF Plaza (formerly the GW Plaza) can be used for MF overflow.

What would be really cool, even though CP would never do it, would be to have an underwater tunnel through the little lagoon Mantis is located on. As I said, CP would probably never do it, and besides, you couldn't see anything in that water anyway. But it would be pretty cool and you would be out of the sun. Just a thought...
I don't think I have ever posted it here, but I know that privately I have been predicting ever since 1996 that eventually the Mantis entrance would be moved over next to the photo sales building at the ride exit. My thought has always been that once they no longer need the overflow queue area, the entrance would move. It just makes more sense than forcing Mantis riders to double-cross the railroad track. With the general rebuilding of the Giant Wheel plaza and the end of the Frontier Trail anyway, this season might be a good time for such a move.
No inside information here, but let's just say I won't be surprised if it happens.

On the record, I like where the MANTIS entrance is presently. You get a great view of how long the line is and can accurately guess-temate the waiting time. BUT, it would really help out the CP novices who always head to the exit looking to get on. (one of my favorite people watching places is at the bottom of the loop- watching people run, only to turn around and go to the REAL entrance. we actually lost count one day). I know, it's a mean fetish.
