Mantis Description Errors...

Okay, read the Banshee thread a few pages down, and went to the Mantis Description page. This line confused me and I asked a friend who has worked on Mantis since 2000 about the accuracy of the statement:

"The positive side of this is that the trim brake on the first drop, which was used for adding seconds to the ride time (in the interest of having a longer load time) is no longer used."

It has been on all of this season, and to everyone's knowledge they have always been turned on and have never been "no longer used". If you go this season, you can HEAR them catch the train and if you ride, you can FEEL them. Just thought to bring it up as it is a misleading statement...

I know I stop by the Mantis just so I can see if the brakes are on. For once, I would like to ride that coaster without the brakes, even though I would probably walk off in a coma.

Ohio State, here I come!

If you notice on the bottom of that page, it was last updated in May 9, 2002 and after reviewing my trip report for opening day 2002, I verified the trims were off on Mantis.

I've had a couple trimless rides on Mantis, but they tend to be very early or very late in the season.

towards the end of the season, like the last 4 weekends they cut off the trims, me and my buddy rogue keilbasa have had a couple trimless rides...the speed into the loop with out the trims is great, a lot of g's though...almost a nice alternative to male contraception:)

TTD=10(frontseat=3)double digits baby!!!
rollbacks seen=2...1 almost stopped at top

But with the trims the hangtime at the top is incredible. There is really no difference in ride quality when off or on, the ride is just different.

Agreed. The trims were on at the end of last week, and there was quite a bit of hangtime on the first loop. Frankly, I may almost prefer the trimmed version vs. the untrimmed, but it's been so long since I've had a chance to ride it untrimmed, I can't say for sure.

Yes, The trims are on.. It looks at times that the train is going to stop in the loop..

I guess I misunderstood but I thought the trims had something to do with the outside temperature. Is this only the case on Magnum? For the past two seasons I noticed that the trims will be off in the spring, on during summer and off again for Halloweekends. A trimless ride on Mantis obviously only affects the first half of the ride. It is a different experience, but not necessarily better. I love the Big Purple Bug no matter what. Mantis rocks! :)

The trims were on the last two times I rode this year, one trip with Nasai (from Coasterbuzz), and a couple weeks ago with my son and his girlfriend. Frankly, it doesn't matter to me if it's trimmed or not. This is one coaster I won't wait for unless the line is 30 minutes or less.
