Mantis ( Return to 3 train operation?? )

MDOmnis, thank you for the advice...makes sense to me! That is definatly something that the Mantis crew will take a look at this summer. Anything to make that line move faster!!!
As for the seatbelt issue...don't even bother trying to fasten it...that is the ride host's job. It actually gets in the way when a guest is trying to fasten it and we come and have to wait while you fiddle with it. That is our job, and we are trained to know how it works ;)

MDOmnis, and MF Girl, the ride op WAS going up and down the loading platform while making his remarks. This was not a spiel. That's how I was close enough to note his name on his tag.

Being in a service area, I know how hard it is to get people to pay attention to instructions. It's like frequent flyers on a plane. How many actually listen to the emergency instructions? They've "heard" them so often, they tune out.

I wish you luck, though. It sounds like MF Girl, as Team Leader, will work with her crew to make loading as efficient as possible. It easier to have faith when someone is making a visible effort.

Believe me, as an "alumnus" of the ride, that was one of the toughest things to do - getting people to understand that they HAVE to stand up. We tried EVERYTHING. Sometimes, between trains, I would try to direct the attention of the oncoming riders to the sign above the unload side of the platform which shows the "proper riding position." Believe me, it didn't help one bit... You'd think that after standing in line for nearly an hour and a half, hearing over and over again from the Queue (Non) TV, "Mantis is a stand-up coaster," and seeing the "proper riding position" signs nearly everywhere you look, and seeing the people in the trains before being forced to stand up, that we wouldn't have any trouble having people stand up... Oh well...

By the way, I would have thought that since Six Flags Ketucky Kingdom doesn't really care if you stand up or not, that they would be able to dispatch trains like crazy, but this is NOT the case. When I was there last year, they were running one train (which was okay, since the crowds were light), but they would STILL stack the train! How did they do that? Well, the train would be coming into the station, and it would stop in the ready position outside the station, and the crew let it sit there for a little bit until they finished their conversation, then the co-dispatch person finally decided to bring the train in. It was pretty pathetic. You know, the ride should have been a walk-on, even with one train, but since the crew didn't give a flying ... umm ... yeah... about doing their job, the wait was closer to 20 minutes.

Anyone that thinks that the Mantis line goes slow, I challenge you to go to any other park with a stand-up coaster, and see if the line moves any faster. I haven't found one...
