Manits and Chang

I once heard that Chang was the actual design come up for CP. Then CP had them change the design to best fit the land. So they reversed the layout, and chopped off one corkscrew. So when KK wanted a new standup, B&M already had a design ready.

Not sure how true this is. But I had heard it from more than one source back after Chang opened.

As for one being better than the other. It depends on how the mid-course trims are operated.

Either way, never marathon a B&M standup! You will regret it! I did Chang 93 times in a day and had problems walking for a week!

That doesn't make sense. Mantis is precisely designed for the plot of land it sits on, relative to Iron Dragon, the train and the lagoon.

it makes sense in the way that, when a park asks for a ride, a manufacturer will present a design, then the park will ask for changes to be made relative to where the ride will stand.

Whether this was that case for Mantis, I don't know. But it happens. A company I used to work for would use a standard design for a system and then make changes as needed regarding height, layout and length.

It would seem that the details mentioned by Jerry would have been ironed out before any real design work was done. After all, the layout and elements are pretty significant components of the package.

Brandon

yeah, that seems more likely in the case of a coaster.

Jeff - true, it doesn't make much sense. But who knows what the park & designer are thinking when they first come up with the ideas! Maybe they had originally planned on having it face a different direction and decided it wouldn't work. Maybe it's a load of BS that someone started! Who knows!

It happened with Magnum. Arrow presented CP with a design of a coaster of about 180+ ft tall. CP went back to them asking "how much will it cost to break the 200 ft barrier"

Like I said, it's just something I heard years ago. Could be true. Maybe not. Just a thought.

Its possible that the "design" they brought to CP was a concept (hey look, you could put this in) and then CP went and said, "OK, make something like that fit here".

Regardless, it's not a design derived from something else.

Why is it that no one around here can ever accept the most simple and obvious explanation for things?

Oh my God! No thanks! I can't even imagine that. Maybe Riddler's Revenge or Georgia Scorcher but definitely not any others.... :)
