Apparently a manager at Johnny Rockets told a mother that breastfeeding was not allowed in the park.
Cedar Point quickly remedied the situation (replying to the mother's rant on facebook), explaining that it WAS allowed, and that they talked with and corrected the manager.
Unfortunately, word spreads quickly in the breastfeeding community, and nobody knows how to read replies to comments on facebook, so there are several angry 'mama-bears' out there who still think that Cedar Point does not allow breastfeeding in the park.
Take a look at the 'recommendations' portion of Cedar Point's facebook page, and watch the drama unfold!
Oy Vey!
I had to call the nasty haters out on it, and stand up for common decency here.
Look, I'm as much for breastfeeding as anyone is, but this was the case of one manager at one location within the park being an idiot.
Take it to guest services, problem gets resolved right there when they're told that breastfeeding is allowed, and they probably would have received free food or some kind of compensation, but instead they take it home and have their friends attack the page.
Te me, that's petty and immature. Now, had they brought it up with Guest Services, and got the same response, then sure - have at it. Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be how this went down.
i smell a lawsuit coming from this. The manager should be fired right on the spot for not knowing the rules the park set.
Firing the manager on the spot is way too extreme. Nobody's perfect. He or she made a mistake and has been corrected, and, hopefully, given guidance on how to interact with customers in unusual situations.
I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.
Two things:
1. It's a natural thing and as long as the mother goes and does it discreetly, that's fine. Johnny Rockets may not have been the place though. But seriously, it's supposed to be a beautiful and natural thing.
2. I would never bring an infant child to Cedar Point personally. The hot sun, always being outside,a lot of noise, too young to remember anything from it...even when I was 3 1/2 when I first came to the Point I was a pain in my mother's butt. "We go see bears, mommy? We go see bears?" That's my opinion though
One thing I'm not sure about was how discrete was she? Was it huddled up? No exposed flesh? Or did she just "flop it out?" I've actually seen the later at a park. I think the later is indecent but I'm NOT confronting a mother on that because I, "won't understand."
Don't confront her for flopping it out, just throw her some beads.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I think anyone scared of a naked boob has issues. I don't understand how this country got so up tight, especially in the case that breast feeding is not a sexual thing.

Jeff, considering the country was founded by a bunch of prudes, I am not surprised at all.

An impression of a naked boob is all in a matter of context. Fine with a daughter of mine nursing in public but not with Girls Gone Wild.

Firing the manager is definitely extreme. As noggin said, we all make mistakes.
At one time during my employment at Cedar Point, I, along with the rest of my crew, enforced a rule for about half of the season because we all were originally trained by somebody who believed that CF was strict on this certain policy, and he/she enforced this rule as well as the rest of the crew. One day when my supervisor came to my ride, I was curious and asked him why CF is strict on this specific (silly) policy. He then told me that no such rule even existed. After that, we were all straightened out and had a smooth rest of the season.
It's not just one specific person's fault. It seems highly unlikely that somebody would enforce an off the wall rule, then blame it on the park saying that it is against park policy.
Yeah I suppose I am being silly if I have an issue with breastfeeding. This is definitely a teaching moment for the manager.
What if someone complains she is doing it? It just makes me glad customer service jobs are behind me. Dealing with corporate IT and the personalities and policies is one thing. Dealing with a general population that thinks they are entitled to everything is something I'm glad I don't have to deal with. Especially in this day and age with the internet hate machine.
This is my first year at Cedar Point and I've been happy with the overall attitude of the employees. I've only encountered a few zombie employees.
If a customer is bothered by a mother who is naturally feeding her child, then that customer needs to mature. In no way is a mother sexually exploiting when breast feeding. It shouldn't have to be an employee's job to do the dirty work of an irate customer over something that is not as bothersome, creepy, disgusting, or sexual as the GP makes it out to be.
