When I-280 closes, here is the best way to get around it:
Take I-75 South to Exit 202A. This is the Washington St. DOWNTOWN exit. It's got 2 lanes of 'Exit Only'
You will exit to the right, and then its got a 25MPH Curve to the left. Curve to the left, and then you go over (or under, I forget) the freeway and come to a light. It's like a 3 way intersection/fork in the road. Follow the fork to the right. Washington will go down a few blocks, and go past the ballpark and then intersect with Summit St. Make a right onto Summit, and then a Left onto OH-53 (Which is the next light up, I think its called Clayton)
You will go over the Mackinac-like-bridge and then you will see a turn for OH-2 to the left about 2 or 3 lights up.
Once you turn left, stay on the same road and you'll cross I-280. Follow this to CP like normal.
I took the turnpike to I-75 last night on the way back from CP and itwas extremely painless (no jockeying around Downtown Toledo!) and just as fast, if not faster than my normal 280 to 2 route.
I've also got Ben's instructions, but frankly, as fast as it was to use the turnpike, I think I'm going to opt for that this summer once 280 is closed. Then I won't have to deal with the Edison Bridge construction either. *** Edited 5/9/2005 2:35:10 PM UTC by OldCPer***
I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead
Hey - I am going to the point tomorrow from the detroit area. I used to have GPS in my old car and now that I have switched subsiquently have no idea how to get there - lol. Anyways, if I remember correctly I want to take I-75 south to 280 South (which i expect will still be open tomorrow right?) to I-80/90 east to exit 118 and then what.....?????

Cedar Point - An adventure waiting for everyone.
The route through downtown Toledo isn't as bad as you may imagine. Unlike other cities, you must remember that Toledo's downtown is mostly a vacant ghost town. Driving though in the morning heading to CP, I never see more than a handful of other cars in downtown.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I am also not all about paying extra to do the turnpike, plus the extra gas to go down south the extra miles and then go north the extra miles. It seems no real easy way to get to CP anymore. But if they close 280 so they can get the road done EVENTUALLY, I am for it. I have been driving that since 2000 and 5 years of this is enough! Tired of the 35 mph and construction through there.
GET ER DONE OHIO!
