I rode magnum on opening day and i had rode so many times previous and it always was fast with good airtime. This particular ride on May 7th for some reason was a disappointment. Going through the helixes in the turn around seemed much slower and the second helix was simply dead and the bunny hills airtime just lacked. I wonder if this was just a fluke ride. Does anybody have any opionions on this?

Millennium Force is the greatest coaster in the world
I would definently say that it is because it was simply opening day. It was colder then usual and had not had many riders yet this year. I would count on it getter much faster by summer.( which is only a few weeks away!)

I was there as well opening day, and I got several rides out of it. It seemed that the trims were on heavily. That might have been why you thought it seemed less intense.
I know later on in the day they didn't seem to have them on as bad, but hey, It might have been the same, I just didn't feel it as much.

I was there on the 15th, and you are right. It seems much less intense than last year. Me and my friend held a converstation going down the hill, and throughout the ride. It was very odd.

You can easily have a conversation on any ride. Its not like they made the lift hill 50ft shorter and made the trains extra heavy this season.

lol. It did seem smoother until the third hill because of the paint. I didn't really notice anything but that.

Every ride on Magnum is different, depending on weather, wheels, where you sit, etc. I wouldn't read much into one ride that didn't meet your expectations.

Sorry I'm not there this year to ensure Magnum is running at the low end of that 58-62 seconds. ;) Most likely the trims were just on a bit too heavily and you got a slower ride. Either that or it was really windy. When I rode on the 9th, it was going slowly over the 2nd hill because of the wind. When I rode on the 14th, it was flying, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

^^^ Once I realized what you were saying, I laughed :)
Yeah, as far as the pretzel in the back goes, windspeed/direction can really affect the way it goes (at least in my experience).

Like Jeff said, every ride on the Magnum is different! Depends on your train, your seat, the wind, the temperature, the trims, everything. Maybe that's half the fun. Sometimes it flies like it wants to rise off those tracks and never come back. Other times it seems like it is really working just to make it over the 3rd hill. I had some wildly differing experiences last year. Over 4th of July, my brother & I had a last-of-the-night trims-off screamer that made it seem like the upstop wheels were barely there. Amazingly fast, incredible airtime, resulting in bruised legs! Later, during Halloweekends, I had a ride during a wind so stiff it didn't seem like the train was going to make it. The ride fell into this incredible silence going over the hills, because the wind cancelled out the coaster noise. It was very eeire, and way cool. Add the fact that it was pitch black over the lake, and cloudy overhead, and that ride was positively surreal. Maggie has many moods, enjoy them for what they are!

I've had the pleasure of riding Magnum a dozen times during my four trips so far this season.
It's still the same old Maggie: A different experience for each rider in each seat on each circuit.
Thought of you, Tank, as I enjoyed a ride with my eldest son for the first time in seat 1-3.

I, too, apologize for a less than stellar ride on Magnum. If I was still on the ride that would have never happened! ;)

Magnum is an amazing ride. When I rode last May it really hurt, but in October it was the best ride I've ever had on it, my friend and I had a conversation on it, she was describing which hotel she stayed in during the summer and we talked about how Soak City looked really different with everything empty and full of leaves. We weren't even next to each other, she was in front of me. It was very fun.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Like others have said, Magnum is a tempermenta ride. No two rides are the same! I think it is running great so far this season!l
I had three great rides on Magnum on Wednesday, one walk-on, one 1 train wait, and one 3 train wait.
The second ride was so great it made a girl puke all over the exit ramp. :)
Love the paint job it got. Looks very nice.

Hey, it's always nice to be remembered! I will finally get to find out how Magnum is doing this season for myself, tonight! We will be getting our passes in order this evening, and taking a few twilight rides. Tomorrow I will be able to be there when the lift starts up! Hope to see some of you there. Also looking forward to some serious ride-time over Memorial Day weekend.

Go ahead and get ready to laugh at me because I am going to ask you a newbie kind of question.
What do you all mean when you say "trims are on"?
Trims are coaster brakes, used to slow the trains down. And PS: Nobody is laughing at you; we were all newbies too, you know.
