Magnum shut down 6/9

I'm just wondering if anyone knows about Magnum's structure. It was supposedly shut down yesterday because of winds. But even when the winds weren't that much, it was still shut down at least from the afternoon until park closing. Millennium was running and I *think* Top Thrill was, too. Is there something about Magnum that it was not built to withstand as the newer coasters or do you think there was an undisclosed problem with the ride?

I think after over 20 years of Ohio weather and still standing it's probably not the structure. I bet it's still weather related

I agree which made me find it odd that it was the only one that remained shut down. It seems they closed a few because of winds, but then they re-opened. Still not 100% sure on Dragster reopening but that seems more plausible to me because of its height.

When a ride is down for wind, especially Magnum, it had to do with wind speed and direction. It isnet about the structure, but about the train can valley if there is a strong gust of wind.

I was wondering what the problem was when it shut down around 2:30 and remained down until I left at 5-6. The crew was cleaning trains so I knew it wasn't going back up any time soon. I wasn't nosy enough to try to get any info. Wind never really crossed my mind as the issue though. Seems hard to believe it was down for wind yesterday. I figured it was something mechanical like the air compressor or welding or something because it just didn't seem remotely windy enough to present a problem, but when I looked around, I didn't see any maintenance activity so I guess it is possible. It was kind of breezy and I think the winds were out of the north, but the trains were coming back just fine (and delivering good airtime) and they still had the trims on quite hard when I rode several times in the morning.

I've personally run the ride in much stronger winds and cooler temperatures than yesterday. If the trains get slower that 63 or 64 seconds, just turn off the trims and the problem is solved. I'm kind of wondering if the new operations boss is just kind of unfamiliar with the specifics of some of these rides and being very cautious. Weather has not been great this year so far and I know they did have some early rollbacks, but it has been a LONG time since Magnum has rolled back as far as I know. Has it every rolled back since they replaced the upstop pads with wheels? A good indication that there was no issue was the empty train stopped in perfect position in the safety brakes when the ride was down. Had wind been an issue, the last car would have been barely out of the tunnel or even tipped slightly back into the tunnel.

O noes!!!11!

Seriously, why do we need a new topic every time a ride is down? They're machines. Sometimes they don't work.

Because it's one of the best rides in the world, and it broke when I was at the park, as it always seems to do!

Seriously though, I bet Magnum was just tired and needed a nap after getting up early for coasting for kids...

I only asked because I heard it was winds and the other rides were running again, thought it might be something else or it might be more susceptible to wind than other rides. Didn't know it breaks down a lot like MaverickLaunch says.

Not sure about how things are going this year, but Magnum has historically been one of the most reliable rides in the park.

When I went (May 19th,20th) it was closed most of those 2 days as well. I don't think it was because of wind as there was barely any wind.
