My dad is a complete Magnum-phobic, and yesterday I was SO close to getting him on, but he started thinking about a stall on the lift.
I tried to explain the minimal chance, and such, but he wouldn't listen.
Could anyone explain to him (I already know, but he needs more proof) that walkdowns are VERY rare, and what is involved in a walkdown.
Walkdowns ARE VERY RARE due to the safety issue. They won't do it unless they absolutely have to.
If they do,they have so many of the ride-ops and someone from park-op go up the lift and start getting everyone out of cars. Each person stands, holding onto railing til everyone is out. Then they walk whole group down at same time.
I have seen this twice.

Working 2 different coasters, I have only been involved in 3 walkdowns, and that's when we send literally hundreds of trains each day. Indeed, it is a minimal risk of having to walk down after being stopped on a lift or any other part of a ride. If you can, look at it as the most unique opportunity you'll have had riding roller coasters, one a lot of enthusiasts would gladly sacrifice for!

Tell your dad the odds of actually being involved in a walkdown, hopefully he will ride. No matter what happens, you will have a safe and enjoyable ride on the Magnum at CP!
I know, and frankly, I have ridden Maggie enough, I would LOVE a walkdown.
But, my dad is so afraid of heights, it really wouldn't be good for him to walkdown.
Any way someone can explain a walkdown is safe? Also, how many walkdowns has Maggie had?
A walk down on Magnum is pretty much the same as walking down a waterslide, except that it is higher and actually more sturdy. The side rail prevents you from falling off, and it is awfully hard to fall down if you are holding on to it.

There are two wishes I have for magnum.
a. to be walked down.
b. to be on a rollback
I've come close several times to both of them but no luck so far.

So out of 1,600 some times Dan has been on Magnum, and never had to walk down, I'd say walk downs are VERY rare! :)

Magnum is AWESOME! Still not as good as The Force, but worth riding. I'm DEATHLY afraid of heights... so I just DON'T think about having to walk down, instead I concentrate on enjoying that hell of an adrenaline rush Maggie gives, especially on that second hill.
Funny, I've always been scared of a walk down on Raptor. That's why I won't sit on the far left hand side of the car!

Dan...you forgot about being repainted.

Has Raptor ever had a walkdown? Was wondering how they would get people off the far left side of the train.
Raptor has a little car like the Force.
Yes Raptor has had a walkdown.. Just about EVERY coaster at CP (MF excluded thus far) have had a walkdown at one time or another.
Most recent one I remember for Raptor was ARC day in 2000.
I've done walk-downs on Mantis, Gemini, (partial, only about 25% up the lift) Magnum and Meanstreak opening week, opening year. I'm lucky I guess.. but then why did I have the 6 numbers for the $54 million drawing on Weds?

MF 2001 - 101 laps as of (7/12/01)

You know something after all the rides I've had on Raptor, I just noticed the car on Raptor. I thought that black ugly thing at the bottom of the lift served no purpose. Up until then, I had no idea how the guests on the outside and middle got down.
You know, now that I think about it I do remember it. Thanks for the point in the right direction.
