Magnum Paint

So I was walking down the midway towards the laser light show screen and the first thing I noticed was wildcats new paint job (highlighter yellow and purple track) and that mantis had been repainted. Now the real question is when is Maggie going to get it’s well deserved paint job?

Magnum will be painted soon hopefully. Mantis cost alot of money to paint as well as did raptor. Magnum will roughly be about 2 million to paint. yeah it doesn't seem like much but after painting 3 coasters and some rides it adds up. magnum is slated to be painted next off season. so hopefully it will be back to its old glory!

I seem to note that any ride that has been repainted tends to not fade as quickly. A good example is Raptor. The new paint job has held up great and shows no signs of fading or dulling. Do they use a different type of paint when they repaint the coasters? Mantis has never appeared to have the sheen that it does now.

I did notice that Mantis' new paint looks great...and it looks like the red paint is a little different from the original. In fact, is it my imagination, or is the Mantis track now the same color as Magnum?

2 million to paint magnum? WOW, that's absurd. Any ideas on how much the Mantis paint job set them back?

I highly doubt it costs $2 million to paint a ride. Several hundred thousand probably, but $2 million seems like a little much.

$2 million for maggie, yeah right. Raptor alone was $250,000, Mantis was probably about the same, Magnum shouldn't be much more than that.

Has Magnum been repainted once before, or is it still the same paint job as from '89?

Word on the street is that Magnum is being repainted during the next offseason, you should see the fresh look in '04.

I think they should make it more of an orange red this time. I think too many people think of it as being that color

Same with Raptor, I noticed it has a much nicer, glossy finish after it was repainted. I think they do use a different paint. Whatever the paint is, it is very nice paint. And, judging by Raptor, I bet it will hold up better than the original paint.

The numbers i got were from one of the workers my friend knows. i forget what department he is the head of, but he has been there along time, i wanna say foods but i forget at the moment, i was standing right there when he rattled off the numbers. Mantis was about 1.25 mil or so cause of where it is and how high it is and because it is inbetween rides and is hard to get at. Raptor was over a million dollars to paint.

It's easy to forget that the construction of a roller coaster makes it difficult to paint, and increases the amount of paint needed to cover it. Consider this...if you were to cover the structure of a wood coaster with plywood and then paint it, you would probably use less paint than is required to paint the whole structure. It's that whole "every part has three dimensions" issue that gives the ride a whole lot more surface area than you might expect.
