Magnum entrance (and parking) question

Thanks a lot, MrScott and TCKR.

I've pretty obviously never been to CP before, so I'm just hoping that some of the vets from the board will be able to give me any hints+tips for the most enjoyable trip.

=D

Hi - I'll be traveling up from southern Indiana for our first trip to Cedar Point arriving Monday evening and planning on spending Tuesday and Wednesday at the park with my 15 year old son and his friend. It's kind of a last minute trip for us - we got the chance to "get out of town" and went for it.

I have advice for coming up from Dayton to Bowling Green, Ohio via I-75 - then taking US 6 at Exit 179 - to follow US 6 around Fremont all the way into Sandusky. It ends there. We're staying at the Holiday Inn on Milan just because I had to make a quick decision and I have a frequent-flyer card for Holiday Inns.

If anyone out there is from the area and can advise about getting safely into our motel area in Sandusky Monday evening I would greatly appreciate it. (And any words of wisdom about how early to arrive at the park entrance Tueaday morning, etc.). Thanks - Indiana First-timers!

Bowling Green might be a bit further north than you need to drive. You might consider grabbing SR 12 out of Findlay, into Fremont. Once in Fremont, you can take an extreme "back door" route to Sandusky. State Route 412 runs from Fremont to Castalia. In Castalia you can pick up SR 101, and take it east to Sandusky. Since you're staying at the Holiday Inn, grab SR 2 and go to US 250, and exit practically into the Holiday Inn parking lot. It shouldn't be a bad run either, since you are traveling evening time, and heading in, when everyone else is heading out.

On Tuesday AM, LEAVE THE ROOM EARLY, head to CP, skip the Main Entrance and go around to the Soak City parking lot, and park as close to the tunnel (you'll see it) as you can. You will be just a short walk from the Magnum Entrance. You will not be able to enter the park until 9:30am. However, once the resort and Joe Cool guests go through at 9:00am, there will be relatively few people lining up for 9:30 entry. You will enter next to the Magnum, and not far from Dragster. If your goal is the Millennium Force, the Main Entrance will probably be better. For general coasters, and walk-on flat ride fun, skip the Dragster and Force, and go in the Magnum Entrance. You can have the back of the park practically all to yourself for a couple of hours. I have gotten 4 or 5 Magnum rides in a row in the 1st 20 minutes after about 9:50am, which has been when Magnum is opening. Gemini is the same also, as is the Corkscrew. *** Edited 7/12/2004 1:13:50 PM UTC by Tank***

Or, take Rt. 6 from Fremont to Rt. 2. A little more direct and possibly less confusing to someone not from the area.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Sorry to keep bringing up old topics, but I'm just making my final judgments before we leave tomorrow morning [at 5am, no less, ouch].

To get to the Magnum entrance, we'd have to drive around the entire park, clockwise, before we get there, correct? Head to the leftmost area at the booths, and say we're heading to Soak City for the day, and then just drive around 'til we hit the parking lot?

Just gotta make everything super clear for myself so I don't get confused [which is surprisingly easy for me to do].

And one more completely unrelated question, just so I don't have to clutter up the main page with another topic..

I printed my CP tickets at home [purchased them on-line]. Can I use them at the Magnum gate, and do you think I'd get any sort of flack for bringing them as opposed to real tickets? Or is it just like - a scan of the ticket, and then you get in?

Scan of the ticket and you get in. :)

When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835

Yes, go into the left most booth, then just keep driving around the park, you'll drive right by Millennium Force, and Mean Streak as your going around, you'll have fun.
Thank you guys, you've been a great help.
We're die hard Cedar Pointers! ;)
YES....there is a road, and its the very same road that you continue on when you come in! just keep going straight, your on an island, with one main road that leads to the back, its not that complicated at all, your not in NYC! Its very easy, dont sweat it so much. The road takes you all the way out arround MF, Mean Streak, and then you will end up right by soak city and theres a big parking lot! (hint that would be it!)
