Magnum color debate solved!

Is the Magnum XL-200 red, orange, or red/orange? I beleive the folks at Cedar Point have clearly solved this long-standing debate. (I've seen this debate several times in my long stance of lurking around here).

The following is from CedarPoint.com's Magnum page ( http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/magnum.cfm )

A traditional out-and-back "hyper-coaster," Magnum's 5,106 feet of red steel tubular track runs through Soak City water park and along the Lake Erie shoreline, giving riders spectacular views to go along with magnificent hills and blazing speeds.

So, I guess that's the official stance!

But it's burnt orange.

Thats from all the years of weather wearing out the paint.

"Take Me To Wendy's"

All it needs is a paint job and it will be the red it used to be.

If you look at the POV in the gallery here for Magnum shot in '88, it is in between, but leans more toward red, I think.

On that page they say "3 tunnels with special effects." When did the effects stop?

It really depends on if you go on a busy day or not. In the last tunnel, you can sometimes hear the shooting star effects as well as smoke. To have anything in the other two is a rarity. As far as year, I don't know.

The special effects equipment for tunnels 1 and 2 was removed in july of the 2001 season 'for repair', and in November it still wasn't back... I think it is just gone.

It was never pure red, regardless of what it says on the official web site. It always had some orange in the color

Oh man...

Why don't we just ask Arrow? ;)

Their answer won't be any different than Cedar Point's. Magnum is red, of course, and it shouldn't be a surprise that paint fades.
...then why hasn't Iron Dragon's track faded yet when it's older...?

Personally I call it red. If you want to see an Orange arrow coaster check out Anacanda at PKD, thats orange!

Trees? Not as close to the lake?

That might help a little...but Mantis is in the same vacinity, and it has faded a lot. This brings up another question:

Did CP get the shaft on their B&M's paint? Raptor lasted 7 seasons without a new paint job, but Mantis...it took like 3-4 seasons for the red paint to fade to the pinkish color it is now. The supports look pretty sad with the little touch up paint that it clearly visible. I hope Mantis gets painted this season, with a paint that has the longevity of Iron Dragon's.

Is this really a BIG deal?

I was led to believe that this title read, "Magnum color debate SOLVED."
LOL, I was led to believe that too. I've always thought it was red.

Red is the color to fade the fastest in sunlight. Ask anyone with an older, red car.

(Magnum was red/orange, Dragon was cherry red)
