Magnum...

When I went to Cedar POint on May 12th, they were having a lot of problems with Magnum. It kept getting stuck on the lift hill. And when I got on it, it got stuck at the first set of brakes when you come out of the station and on the way up the hill. Has this been occuring a lot this season??
It was running great the two times I was there in June.
Trains never get "stuck" on the track, as if they don't fit or something, they are stopped by the operators for saftey reasons.
The last time I was there the train was stopped on the lift hill because a bird was sitting on the camera.

breath....you have just broken ten world records.
Nothing is wrong with the ride, the ops do this for saftey reasons(ahem..someone doing something bad)

We got stopped in the final brake run on either May 12th or 13th.

In May, we got stopped on the brakes outside the station. Another train stacked behind us. One train was "stuck" in the station. For some reason, an op ran under the lift hill, and seemed to be talking on a phone there or something. Then the ride started. Who knows.

A bad day at CP is better than a good day at work.
Sounds like a lift reset...

When I was there I looked at the top of the lift hill and noticed something that I never did before. Ok I know how there are 3 tubes that make up the track but at the top of the lift about 1 foot of the largest tube is missing. I'm not sure if it has always been like this but it broke down for awhile that day and then I noticed it.

It's a lot more than a foot of spine that is missing. If you look at the "Magnum Descent" wallpaper available from this very site (I'm using it as my desktop background right now, in fact) you can see what's up with that missing bit of spine: That's where the chain idler attaches at the top of the lift. I'd say that gap is more like five or six feet...almost a full space between track-ties.

...because as Rideman said, that's where the chain curls under itself for the return trip down the lift. It was engineered that way. The chain can't get through the track any other way.
But is it nessessary(sp) for that big of a gap?
