I agree with Walt; stop any 10 people on the midway in either Sandusky or Valencia and I
You mean Jeff. :) Not that I don't share the same opinion.
Maybe it's time to change the ol' avatar to avoid further confusion. :)
I don't get why everyopne wants to have a family park?? Go to Disney world. Cedar Point is the Coaster Capital of the world. You don't go to CP to go on JR Gemini or Planet Snoopy. You go to ride Millenium Force and Top Thrill Dragster. Thats how it's been for years and probably wont ever change. As long as Dragster is there.

That's not correct. You may not go for those reasons, but the people who actually spend money in the park (families) do.

I know, but that is what CP is known for. It kind of when ten years not caring about Families, well probably a lot longer, but just started to be a family park. It will take a while to be known as a family park. It's a thrill park.

Ugh... nobody in SoCal cares about what some park in Ohio is doing any more than people in Ohio care about the other park 3,000 miles away. There is no war. There never was. Ask a random guest at CP if Dragster is the tallest roller coaster in the world and they'll say yes. No one cares.
Really?
When was this poll conducted? I must have missed it.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Enthusiasts themselves are a microscopic group. Enthusiasts, like yourself, who frequent both parks are a microscopic subset of the enthusiast group.
In other words, Jeff is right - the few people who care about the so-called "coaster wars" are statistically irrelevant, and are typically teenagers who have nothing better to think about.

So the money that my family spends at the park does not count because we do not ride either of those rides?
Do you have stats that show how in the minority my family is with regards to not riding those coasters? Once a family's kids get above 6-7 years old I don't think many of them ride those any more. That leaves a whole lot of money spending years on the table if those family's money does not count.

Cedar Fair's incoming CEO, Matthew Ouimet:
In my experience the family audience represents greater profitability per customer and supports an in-park experience that all can enjoy.
This guy's got a lot of relevant experience, so it's reasonable to assume he knows what he's talking about.
Combine that with the fact that Disney kicks a lot of financial ass targeting families (almost exclusively, one might argue), and I'd say it's not unreasonable to draw such conclusions.

Don't worry. I missed it, too.

I'm not sure if all of you know or not but Six Flags Magic Moutnain is officially moving their coaster Deja Vu to Six Flags New England for the 2012 season.
Is this really official? I know SFNE mentioned that they were getting a Giant Inverted Boomerang, but I haven't seen anywhere that stated Magic Mountain would be removing theirs. It does seem likely that that will be the case, but official? Did I miss the press release?
Richie A.
There was a link on screamscape to a press release or some sort of statement from the park.

Just started to be a family park??
At one time there was Jungle Larry's, Oceana, the Berenstain Bear Country, Kid Arthur's Court, Kiddie Kingdom, all before Snoopy came to town. And that's only what I remember from the 80s on.
Don't even think about it, little boy. I will race you back to the Mean Streak and win.

So the definition of a theme park family is one that has young children, say below the age of 6. If that is the definition so be it, I can accept that. Maybe that is the reason I struggle with understanding what a family attraction is. My apparently non-family is not so interested in something that a 4 year old can ride.
It would seem to me that families with older kids would have more money to spend because the parents are further along in their career and are making higher wages than a family that is just getting started. Certainly the case in my family.
