Mad Mouse information needed.

Hello all :o) I have been a lurker here for quite some time and enjoy reading all the posts. Time for me to lose my virginity though and post!

Recently, my father was telling me about a ride called the Mad Mouse, or something to that effect, and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this ride. When was it built; when was it taken out; was it really as dangerous as I'm being told; etc. A picture of the ride would be helpful (my dad says I was on it with him, but for the life of me I can't remember it).

Thanks in advanced,
Jeff

I don't believe there was a Mad Mouse at CP.

There have been a couple similar in style (wild mouse) to the current mad mice at various amusement parks. I'd check out the Jumbo Jet and Wildcat as possibilities.

You can also find an image of the Mad Mouse here. Check out the rest of RCDB for more.

There was a ride at Cedar Point called Wild Mouse. It opened in 1959 around the current location of Raptor's first drop. It closed just a few years later, perhaps to make room for Mill Race, which opened in 1963.

I know I have video of it in my collection. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Edit: Found it. Link (WMV), Wild Mouse is from 1:32 to 1:52 and 2:14 to 2:21 in the video. Footage is from the 1960 season.

Thanks for the info! That Wild Mouse sounds like it would be the one my father is talking about. He did say it was only there for a couple of years before some lady was thrown out of it and killed because of the way it whipped around the turns.

If that was the ride my dad was talking about though, I couldn't have ever ridden it (I'm only 38 years old, so it was a little before my time).

I'll print out some of the pics and see if they jog his memory.

Thanks for the help.

No problem. I can tell you, though, that no one died on Wild Mouse.

I'm even more amazed in how far we've come in less than 50 years as far as video technology. Heck just the last 20 years. We were stuck in the VHS analog mode until only a couple years ago (when it became affordable to the common man to go digital).

Has a ride at CP ever cause a death in all 136 years it has been around? The only accidents I know of is a horse carriage flipping over in the 50's and TTD's cable fraying incident in 2004. None of those caused a death, the people on TTD didn't even leave the park after the incident.

Depends on your definition of "caused".

Were deaths caused by malfunction? No.

Have the forces of rides (such as Wildcat) induced heart attacks that have lead to a death? I believe that has happened.

Yes I meant by malfunction. CP has quite the record when it comes to that. Makes me feel very good about riding the rides.

Also, the ride Scamper was a wild mouse design. This was located about where the corkscrews on "Corkscrew" currently go over the midway.
