I'm finding it interesting that so many people love Cedar Point yet are so quick to critique the coasters. CP has 14 roller coasters but how many of them are actually high on people's list of favorite rides.
A quick rundown of omments I've picked up over the months around here:
Blue Streak - used to be fun until they ruined the trains
Mine Ride - always the butt of jokes
Wildcat - a nondistinct wildmouse type ride
Corkscrew - outdated and showing its age
Jr. Gemini - "be glad you're over 36" tall!"
Iron Dragon - slow and lame
Disaster Trasport - themeing a waste of money, ugly building
Mean Streak - rough, slow, boring
Mantis - painful, faded, not operated efficiently
These 5 fare better but. . .
Woodstock express - short ride
Raptor - other inverteds are more intense
Gemini - large mine ride
Magnum - overgrown mine ride, getting rough
Millenium Force - why isn't it taller/faster/longer/etc.
I hear people say that they only time they'll ride something other then Raptor or Magnum (and now MF) is if the ride is a 10 minutre wait or less.
Is it just that there aren't many other places where one can experience the variety and number of coasters even though an individual coaster at another park may be a better ride? Does CP just have the right ambiance and historical character that make it an enjoyable place to ride coasters. Are the outspoken critics of the coasters really in the minority and these opinions aren't held by most CP lovers?
I like all of the coasters. (well never been on Jr Gemini) I don't need them to be the tallest, fastest, smoothest, whatever. I just like to ride them. They all offer a different experience. Blue Streak is still a fun ride I never miss despite the new restraints. Disaster Transport may have failed at the themeing but it is still the same basic ride as Avalanch Run. I guess my love of CP has to do with the variety of options. There is a coaster for every taste and enough rides and activities to occupy non coaster freaks

I think that when it comes down to it, we all love the coasters. Sure some are better then others, and with all the rides, we must manage our time wisely (which means skipping some rides if the wait is too long.)
We sometimes criticize the coasters, but it's only because we are so proud of CP, that we want it to be the BEST. We want everyone to love ALL the coasters, not just raptor, magnum, and MF.
I criticize a lot of things in my life, my job, school, family, but when i really think about it, i love all these things (except, the job maybe).
We may be quick to judge the rides but you can be sure that if someone that has never been to CP starts cracking on the rides, every CP fan will defend our pride and joy!
Just tell me one time you didn't step off ANY coaster at CP with a smile :)
I never stepped off ANY coaster at CP without a smile. I don't get to CP often enough to want skip any coasters but when I do skip coasters they are usually Raptor, Magnum and (now) Millennium Force. Yeah, the 3 top rides in the park but I would rather ride Gemini 4 times then stand in line for an hour to ride Raptor.

Well, CP is more than coasters....I guess I have more memories of the park throughout the years that pertain to atmosphere rather than coaster rushes. Like the time my 3 yr old daughter colored here own candles in the candlemaking factory. The smile on her face was like the Mastercard commercial: priceless.....
Or the time my stepdaughter was finally tall enough and mustered enough courage to ride Iron Dragon & Disaster Transport. The excitement she showed as she "conquered" her fear of the unknown.
I for one, hope CP stays the way it is and keeps the mild thrills. As long as it stays a family park, I will continue to come back year after year and relive the thrills through the eyes of my children. Which I find much more exciting than any single thrill any coaster can give me.....
Shut-up and find yourself another park! I like CP and I'm stickin to it!

MagnumFAN, no one said that they dislike CP. We are just trying to figure out why people who claim to be huge CP fans complain about the rollercoasters.
As long as your like CP, who cares about what they think about the coasters. I hear all the time, "their rides are so *boring*", but, I say, you may find them boring but theres always more people that find them interesting and fun....Like me!!!. Besides if people found their coasters boring, why does CP always when best amusement park for like so many years. That proves the majority loves CP. : )
Like I've said in the past, another open spot in line for Raptor! We need to remember, people are entitled to their opinion, we shouldn't bash people because they have an opinion. It's what makes the USA the greatest country on Earth.

I am going to have to comment and I will really try to keep it clean. Some of this stuff I don't know where you get this from. Mine Ride is the butt of jokes, WHAT Jokes? What jokes would you say about a roller coaster? Second, Mean Streak slow? Okay are we talking about the same rollercoaster? The roller coaster is rough okay but it is not slow. Third, Magnum is an Over Grown Mine Ride? Okay look at Mine Ride then look at Magnum. Man I don't know where you are getting this stuff from but I think it was really stupid to even post that. Cedar Point is the best mostly because of its rollercoasters. How can anyone say something about Gemini when it was the most ridden roller coaster in the park. I am sorry but I think in my own opinion it was not every smart to even post this because I don't go to Cedar Point to ride, rides and look at shows. I go there for the roller coasters and so does a lot of others.

Some people just don't get that your not a true blue fan unless you like all the park has to offer.

Dispatch Master, This is Transport one! I'm losing control, I'm losing control!
The coasters may be the #1 draw, but if all you do is run from one coaster queue to another, you're only getting half of the experience.

Magnum2G3, I think the original post just simply was paraphrasing what other people have said about the various rides at Cedar Point. millrace went on to say in the post that he liked all of the rides there and disagreed with what many other people have been saying.
Personally, what I think makes Cedar Point such a great park is that there is something there for everyone. I remember when i was younger and too afraid to ride the big rides like Magnum, Mantis, Mean Streak etc., how happy i was that there were smaller, less intense rides that i could enjoy with everyone in my family. Of course, now that I am older, and have conquered my fears of the bigger rides, I find Iron Dragon, Mine Ride etc. boring and not worth a long wait. However, I am thankful for the great thrills these rides once gave me not too long ago.
Sure, for everyone Cedar Point could be better if everything was changed to suit their personal preferences. But, what really makes Cedar Point the greatest park in the world is that there is something there for everyone of all ages, and rides just the right size to bring them their personal thrills.
Okay but I don't understand why it even had to be posted. Its obvious that Iron Dragon and Wild Cat are for people who are not ready to ride the larger rides. To them these rides are fun and maybe scary. I am really sick of people downing CP, saying some rides aren't even that good.

Hey I love the Wildcat! Hehehhee
I'll be the first to say that my individual top steel and top wood coasters are not at Cedar Point (if you've got AIM check out the buddy info for me, little cat 00, to see my top 10 lists), but I still prefer to go there than any other park I've ever been to, even the park that HAS my top steel AND top wood both. THAT should say something there.

I can see this is going nowhere...
After visiting three new parks last weekend, I can honestly say that it's the total package, the location, and the many childhood memories that many of us have that make CP what it is. Dare I say that I have some new favorites from my trip (TR's coming soon on CoasterBuzz), but Cedar Point will always feel like home, as long as the park continues to operate as it does.

I agree with whoever said it is the total package. Every coaster doesn't have to be intense. There are people out there who don't have the nerve to ride some of the monsters in the park. I think it is the total park that makes the difference. There's something for everyone. If I can put a fly in the ointment though, I'd have to say after not visiting CP in about 8 years, I miss the little driks they used to sell that looked like fruit. Now they have machines all over the place. Kinda takes away from the park being personable. Also I stopped in the main arcade and they need to fix the old stuff. The arcade is being neglected. I counted five machines out of order, and they really need to get some newer stuff in there. I feel like I'm auditing my favorite park. I am also shocked at the amount of security also. I know this isn't their fault, but it never used to be that way. Society is sure going down the tubes. I wish I coulda caught one those brats sticking gum on the MF queue wall. I think I would've made them pay with embarassment. I hate to be self-centered, but this is my park and no gum chewing pig will ever stick gum on anything in my presence. Not to mention carve their name into anything.
Now that I've cleared the air CP RULES!!!!!!
Time for a disclaimer. The comments about the roller coasters are NOT my personal feelings. They are snippits of various comments I've heard from time to time. I was just curious as to why I hear so many people putting down the roller coasters and then turn around and say how much they love park. I've gone to CP since the 70's when I was very young and I've come to feel a sense of "ownership" with CP based on it's long history. I agree that it is the total package that makes CP special.
I love CP, but am not especially fond of certain rides. I am almost to the point(no pun intended) of thoroughly disliking both BS and MS. Yes, I think MS is slow too. It was originally approx. 1 2/2 minutes from the drop to finish, now it is about 2 minutes. I would say that it has been slowed down quit a bit, wouldn't you? Even so, I still manage to get in a couple of rides on MS each year.
Everyone has different likes and dislikes. CP has a great variety of rides AND activities for almost everyone. My daughter and I have a season pass and go as often as our time and my job allows. Do we like everything? NO....,but we DO HAVE A GREAT TIME ON EACH AND EVERY VISIT:)
LONG LIVE COASTERMANIA !!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU CP FOR AN AWESOME DAY and letting the 1st seat queue fill up for MF.

First of all, I absolutely love "Wild Cat," it is an awsome and fun ride. I, however, don't ride it very often because the line moves slowly.
Now onto the park as a whole. Some people love Cedar Point that don't even enjoy the roller coasters. In example, my mother always looks forward to our yearly trip to the park. She has a great time there, but she will only ride Disaster Transport, Mine Ride, Woodstock's Express, and Iron Dragon for coasters. She obviously likes the park for the atmosphere, and I have to agree. I can go to the park and have a great time without going on any rides (I don't do it, but I can). This is because the atmosphere is terrific. The landscaping is pretty, the grounds are kept clean, the campground is fun to stay at, they have good shows, etc... These things truly make my trips to Cedar Point memorable.
Finally, I would like to make the point that I personally do enjoy all of Cedar Point's roller coasters. They are all fun and worth riding in their own way.
