Just got back from a trip out to GL and have some random questions.
1. When walking the pathway behind Raging Wolf Bobs, I noticed a house right by the lake with the windows tinted so you can't see in. What is the history of this house and is it used for anything now?
2. The WWK side still has the old Sea World aquarium building. Is that being used for anything or do they have plans for it in the future?
3. Noticed on the front of the Dominator station that you can still read "Bruce Wayne Foundation". Do they plan on covering that up anytime soon?
4. They still have the old Batman stunt show platform out on the lake but not being used now. Is that used for anything now?
5. What is the deal with 2 perfectly good ferry boats just sitting there collecting dust? Are they going to sell them or use them in the future?
6. So is the lake itself prodominently owned by CF with the expection of that small private area along Rte 43? I kind of find it sad that they put the floating bridge right down the center of the lake which means no-one can utilize the lake for jet-skis, paddleboats, etc. It seems that lake is just a waste and isn't utilized at all.
7. Did CF create the first when they took a waterpark lazy river and converted it into a cement river with fish? I got a kick out of that actually. :)
Well, that's it for now. I will add more questions as they pop into my head.
1. I'm not really sure what building you are refering to. On the Sea World side? I know there are houses very close to the park, so it might be a residential home on the left of the path up the hill.
2. The Sea World aquarium building is not being used for anything at the moment (I think it might be used off and on for storage) but nothing is planned as far as the general public knows.
3. I haven't noticed the Bruce Wayne Foundation remenants, and I believe they have already done all they are going to do with this station (at least for the moment).
4. That platform isn't being used for anything currently, but the lumberjack show uses the stadium and they have put out the Sea World water curtain in front of the platform.
5. Those ferry boats are waiting to be sold. When they moved the walkway they discontinued the use of those boats.
6. I believe the lake is not owned by CF, but by the public. I think CF is fined whenever they build onto the lake, but don't quote me on this. Someone else probably knows more on the situation.
7. That Koi fish pond is interesting with the concrete, but I think it looks cool and I think its a nice idea. At least GL took down the signs saying "Koi fish pond is in develpement".
Hope this helps!!

1. I think it's an office for something, based on the sign I saw by it last time I was there.
2. None that are known.
3. Huh?
4. The platform, not at the moment, the stadium, yes; for the lumberjack show.
5. They were too expensive to operate (fuel), took too long to load (up to 45 minutes to load and get to the other side and unload), and it was too expensive to have them taken out of the water, from what I've been told.
6. someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the answer is yes.
7. Yes, good old Koi Creek. :)

Hey, I'm new here so forgive me if I mess this all up. I have a general GL question and I'm sure it's been asked before but I can't seem to find any info on it. We're going to take our trip on the 28th....I know you can't bring coolers etc. into the park and I see on their site that you can rent wheelchairs and strollers. What I need to know is can we bring our stroller in or do we have to rent one there? Also wanted to say, I love pointbuzz...I don't get to the parks, either of them, often but I keep up on everything that's going on by reading it here. Thanks ahead of time for not grilling me for asking a stupid question.
You can take your own.

If it is the house I'm thinking of it was once used as the headquarters for Funtime, Inc. which ran the park prior to the Permier Parks/Six Flags conversion. What is was prior to that (and that began in the 70s) I have no idea. I assume it was a long ago landowner who finally passed on and the park took it over.

I know there are houses very close to the park, so it might be a residential home on the left of the path up the hill.If you first walk starting on the rides side down the pathway, you will notice on the right an actual house.

I wish I had a camera with me. I noticed it because I visited when it was SFWoA so I was actually looking for any SF stuff left over. The outside front of the station at the top is where you can read it. You can tell they removed the lettering for it but the engraving left over is still very easy to read. When you first enter the line, look up at the top and you will notice it.
5. Those ferry boats are waiting to be sold. When they moved the walkway they discontinued the use of those boats.
That's kind of a shame. They should do like Indiana Beach and convert one of the boats into a floating restaurant. You just permanently dock it somewhere and people can enter and leave while getting something to eat.
7. That Koi fish pond is interesting with the concrete, but I think it looks cool and I think its a nice idea. At least GL took down the signs saying "Koi fish pond is in develpement".
Actually, those "Koi fish pond in development" are still there next to the fish food machines.
Hope this helps!!

The house is used as offices, storage and it holds remnants of the past (Park Maps, Coaster Design Plans, etc...), but I believe it was an office building for Funtime.
2. The WWK side still has the old Sea World aquarium building. Is that being used for anything or do they have plans for it in the future?
The building is NOT being used at the moment. I dont know of any future plans at the moment.
3. Noticed on the front of the Dominator station that you can still read "Bruce Wayne Foundation". Do they plan on covering that up anytime soon?
I have no clue about this. I believe they should get rid of it. But hey atleast they've started putting non-batman logo seats on that they've ordered in 2004.
4. They still have the old Batman stunt show platform out on the lake but not being used now. Is that used for anything now?
It;s being used for storage, fireworks launch pad.
5. What is the deal with 2 perfectly good ferry boats just sitting there collecting dust? Are they going to sell them or use them in the future?
The ferry boats were a problem, they cost WAY too much to operate, so they discontinued them.
6. So is the lake itself prodominently owned by CF with the expection of that small private area along Rte 43? The lake is not owned by the park, it is a public lake. As far as boat usage, there's still a way to get the boats under the bridge. There's a passage under the docks that was designed.
7. Did CF create the first when they took a waterpark lazy river and converted it into a cement river with fish? I got a kick out of that actually. :)
Apparantly they have. *** Edited 7/21/2006 3:44:03 AM UTC by Rian Whitman***
The "Red House" as it is called by some was indeed used by Funtime for office space. Since then it has held a few other purposes including First Aid and departmental space.
I believe it was used in some way with or was constructed because of the rail station across the street. But i'm not 100% on that one.
The lake is not public property and it is certainly owned in large part by Cedar Fair. Do a quick search on the geauga county web site for parcel 02-125700. It is clear that in Geauga County the lake is owned by CF. link
Aurora on the other hand has that neighborhood association beach. That too is not public access. And the association has denied the park for years in attempting to gain ownership. I guess they just like swimming and fishing in a filthy lake...

Chitown, they do still have the signs saying that the koi fish pond is in development, but I believe they switched them with the old ones that had a major typo. The old ones spelled development "develpement". I'm glad they switched them. They were actual printed signs too! Pretty sloppy for CF.

Thrills Around the Corner!
Cool website, Gener!
I didn't realize Home Depot and Target owned the land they sit on, rather than lease it. What is interesting is that it said the land between Geauga Lake Rd. and the main parking lot was purchased in 2005. Was it not part of the 2004 park purchase?

Being Mavericky since 2007!
Avalanche,
The Geauga Lake Road used to run right in front of the main gates, a real pain in the but, CF had the road relocated (this was the 2nd time the road had been rerouted) so it wasn't part of the original purch.
I've been a season member for GL for the past 3 years & have been wondering who rents out the place for a private event for 1 Sunday every September. When I go by there on that day, the parking lot is packed.
PS gener, Geauga lake is rated as a well quality lake! Think about that the next time you get a drink with ice there!
It is true that GLP gets its water from wells on site. It is also true that the water is treated before it gets to the food stands. While i never got water from the sinks at the park, seeing that the water often times came out yellow/rust colored; the water from the fountain soda machines is further treated. So if you get some water from the machine tap you will be fine.
The water situation was always an issue. The pressure was horrible and Coke installed presure boosters in many of the stands to protect their equipment.
The other "i bet you didn't know" thing was that all most of the food service equipment was water cooled rather than using a a traditional chemical cooling system. And while most places do not use water cooled machines, at the park it worked well because the park didn't have a water bill to speak of since it was pulled from a well.
But that lake is not clean and both parks were hassled about over the years.
