Loose articles on rides

Mrs Dash's avatar

Some rides have a box to put personal items (water bottle,hat...ect) other will not let you have anything like that on the platform. Can anyone tell me what ones I can and can have thing?

Millennium Force, Magnum XL200 and Top Thrill Dragster do NOT have bins. GateKeeper, Valravn, and Rougarou have very small cubbies for loose shoes, glasses, and phones maybe a hat but you cannot put anything else in them, No bags or drink bottles.

Why did they take out the bins for Magnum? It makes things way more inconvenient.

Because guests are slow and cause the ride to set up

Valravn is very specific during the spiel that the shoe boxes are for shoes only, which is why they are called shoe boxes. I saw a lot of people get turned away at GateKeeper's entrance for having bags, stuffed animals, water bottles, etc and if you managed to sneak by them then the ride host at the station split would make you go put your stuff in a locker.

People are slow and loose articles definitely slow load/unload times. When did we become turtles and have to carry our entire home on our back?

THANK YOU GUYS!
I'm not carrying a lot with me. My husband will have his hat (he can sit on that) but I was given a voucher for a refillable cup and was just thinking about what to do with it

It's crazy some of the back packs I see! It's like they bring every thing they need to survive in the wild!

The cubbies at Rougarou are also specifically designated for shoes; other items aren't permitted.

The refillable cup will need to be in a locker ($1/hr with a 2-hour minimum, or there are all-day lockers at the front of the park) or with a non-rider on the aforementioned rides. Depending on where you park, you might also consider leaving it in your car.

I always see people packing around huge bags and wonder why they need to carry around that much stuff. I think the shoe bins are the only storage that should be offered because of the potential loss of your shoes on certain rides.

Storage boxes only slow everything down in a station. I think they should remove all large storage period. If you have large items take them to your car, hotel room, or a locker. Other then a change of clothes for the water park I cant really see a need of carrying anything that wont fit into cargo pants or a fanny pack.

Now the refillable cup is kind of a burden to carry around. The only choice there is to put it in a locker. Which may still be cost effective if you use it enough.

What happened 20 years ago when we didn't have storage and lockers were very sparse? This seems to be a recent issue.

Cell phones didn't exist, and people didn't wear flip flops for walking shoes. Everything you had would fit in your pockets: keys, wallet, change, and maybe a pack of smokes.

Actually cell phones were around. In 1994 I had a gigantic Motorola that weighed 5 lbs. LOL!

So we need backpacks for cell phones? One item doesn't change the nature of "carry your house with you" in this case.

Waist packs and drawstring bags became popular at some point.

Give someone a bag, and they'll find things to put in it.

People had things to carry with them for a long time before cell phones, such as cameras that came in many sizes from small pocketable 110 cameras to large SLRs with detachable lenses.

What has seems to have changed is personal responsibility for your family/group. It was very common that a person or persons would not ride and would stay back and watch all the stuff.

Now there's a mentality that people must have their stuff/ phone with them at all times and cannot fathom leaving it behind or having a person be a non-rider hold it until they are off the ride.

Wear cargo shorts with buttons for your cell phone if you're afraid of losing it. Gym shorts is a big no no. And people who wear flip flops to the park just deserve the trouble anyways! But for sympathy of the flip flop people, keep your feet planted to the floor of the train. If your feet dangle, squeeze your toes together to hold the flip flop. Easy breezy.

I dont wear flip flops in the park, but I do wear a comfy cool pair of New Balance mens sandals. They fasten all the way around though. I like to keep my tootsies cool!

Well, rides are faster, and especially in the case of coasters, their train designs far more open these days. That surely increases the risk of an object being lost.

So it may not only be that people are carrying more stuff. It could be that the stuff they're carrying is less likely to stay secured.
