Lights

We all know that TTD is by far the brightest ride in the park at night. However, do any of you remember seeing the beam lights early in the season?

There are two large lights, one on each of the front two corners of the support structure. Apparently, they are the same kind of lights used to create the beam from the Luxor Hotel in LasVegas. They were on TTD in May, but I haven't seen them on since. The beams of light were amazing, I could see them for a good part of the trip back to Toledo. My question is, why don't they use these lights now? My guess might be that they were simply too bright and people living near the park were complaining. Anyone know or care to speculate?

I myself was wondering that as well. I remember seeing the light beams extend way above the tower. I don't know why they don't use them now.

it was really cool when we were there the first week in June. A guy was taking pictures because you could see the reflection of TTD in the clouds because of the lights. Sounds strange, but it really looked cool!!
I am not sure, when I went in late May, it was brillirant!! Beams of light, those were really cool!

Perhaps once the ride was actually open enough for someone to ride it at night they decided it was too bright on the way down for the riders.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

On a side note, Iv'e seen the sprinklers on and all the lights start steaming and the water sizzles on top. I know they were made to be outdoors but that isn't that great for them either.
Opening day they were running the ride at night and you could see the halo from Fremont, over 30 miles away. pretty incredible.

Jeff, you may be right. When I rode TTD at night in middle May, the lights on the drop were so bright that you could hardly see the ground becuase of their intensity. It would make the ride expirence a bit better if they were toned down :)

Could it be possible that the lights just ate up to much energy, and that the park decided that they were just to expensive to use. Or maybe it could have been a combination of all these factors.
The lights were too heavy and the tower started to sink, they almost had to sell TTD to PKI! I think it used too much power and was taking away from the launch and from WT! ;)

I was wondering how that would affect the "ride". I would think that they could do something like they do on Raptor. Unless, these lights need a warm-up period. I know some of the really bright lights where I work need that. The glass is cool, so if you turn them on right away, it'd be like pouring cold water into an overheating engine.

I started my regular trips to Cedar Point on the 23rd of May, ever since, I haven't seen much change in the lights or none that are noticeable. The lights are magnificent at night, one thing I did notice on Monday night while my friend and I was walking in the abandoned Cedar Point, the lights are so bright that they were shining on the clouds.

You should have seen the light on the clouds when they were still using the beams.

I noticed the change in lighting about Mid May.

What was spectacular about the lighting was once in May we had this really dense fog roll in. I had the pleasure of working resort gate that night. Just kind of cool to see the beams lighting up the sky like that.

On a sour note, those lights around Dragster were very annoying once the muffle heads came out. The bugs naturally attracted to the light found a painful death on these lights, and the sprinklers didn't help none either. The stench off them lights was horrible.

The sprinklers didn't help any either. The stench off those lights was horrible. :)

I saw that too. I even thought of taking a picture too!

The number 1 thing needed to ride Dragster is... Patience!

Maybe they could rig something similar to the lights on the Raptor cobra roll. However, maybe the lights take too long to "warm up".

Scratch that message...Just noticed Dougster's post! ;)

Didn't want to start a new topic...But are the lights on the top of Dragsters station new? I don't ever remember seeing them up there before..Look at the webcam and see if you remember them being there before. It looks like they are pointing up to the sky.
