The lighting system was tested last night (Tue. 4/25). The lift towers will all be illuminated with serious flood lights a la Mean Streak or Darien's Superman. The kicker here is that they are automated fixtures with changing colors.
The colors are very saturated, as on Power Tower or your average rock-n-roll light show. They can be cycled and changed very quickly. Last night they experimented with different color combinations and I guess even light chases between towers. Oh yes... it will be something to see.
One other thing, you probably know that the queue is in place, and they will have the canopies similar to those found in the Power Tower queue.

I knew that CP wouldn't let us down. I have a question though. Is the island lighted at all or is it going to be an isolated black abyss?
Nope... it should be like the dark side of the moon out there. It is my understanding, though, that the lighting on the lift creates a lot of light pollution, so I bet you'll see just fine on that 182-foot hill!

Sounds great...Jeff, did they say anything about the tunnels if they were going to have lighting or special effects?
I didn't ask.

That sounds awesome! Thanks Jeff. I wonder if there's any chance of them leaving the webcam running at night so we can catch a peek.... (hint, hint)
Thanks for the update Jeff...I figured it would be something extraordinary.
Hmmmmm, maybe they will have a day like on KBF Ghost Rider. No lights on Millennium Force!
When I went to CP last July (the 1st time i had been since 1986), I was amazed at the lighting of Mean Streak (much more impressed than i was with its ride), so i'm DEFINITELY loooking forward to seeing MF lit up if it's anything like that - JEEEZ i wish i didn't live 2500 miles away!!!

Thanks Jeff, that sounds awsome, I truly can't wait!!!! JUST 15 MORE DAYS!!!

This should make Millennium Force a really nice addition to the night scene of Cedar Point.
I like the idea of the chaser lights, kind of brings back the nestalgic (SP?) coaster lighting from years gone by! Thanks for the info Jeff.

The more you ride it, the more you want it!

Thanks Jeff. I thought the changing colors of light last year for PT was very cool and unique (too bad my pics. didn't come out of that) IMO, chaser lights plus the spotlights would look really great. Night riding on MF will be a whole new experience in itself...bring it on!!

From Jeff's discription, I believe he actually means that the tower spot lights themselves will chase. Just think of huge rainbow colored traffic lights blinking on and off in sequence from across the Cause. He doesn't mean there will be chasing lights on the lift hill.

I just wondered over to the gallery and looked at MS lit up at night. Wow. I can't even imagine how great MF will look

The equipment is there, so they can really do whatever they want. Like I said, they were apparently just experimenting the other night, so we'll see what they decide to do.

I will be happy as long as I see some....(Dave, in his best Doctor Evil voice...)
...LASERS!!!! :)
Thanks guys; I couldn't resist.
In all seriousness, though, if the lighting IS that spectacular, I may need to get a special plane ticket for a flight over CP at night. Jeff, I believe you've been over CP in a plane before, and you said it was quite an incredible experience. All in all, though, this will be something you will be able to see for miles and miles on the lake.
-Dave K.
No, Dan and Brandon took the plane ride. They didn't call me (said with bitter tone ;)).
Photographing night stuff from the air is somewhat difficult because you generally need to expose the film for a few seconds, which of course you need to be standing still for. You could use faster film, but that mean a grainy image not suitable for enlargements.
