Lighthouse Point Lighthouse

MFman310

I've just got a question on the lighthouse at Lighthouse Point. Was this lighthouse there before they built Lighthouse Point or was it build specifically for Lighthouse Point? I know it looks old but it is possible that they built it recently. Was this lighthouse located somwhere else on the point before because I don't remember seeing it there before Lighthouse Point was built. Thanks for any information.

It was built in 1865.

Nah, the lighthouse was around for quite a while before Cedar Point opened, not just 5 years.

Union troops may have occupied The Point at that time (or at least a year or two prior to 1865) but the lighthouse was built in 1839.

I believe they fixed it up and turned it into a shop for the opening of Lighthouse Point. As for it being moved, I don't know.

It was always back there but it was hidden by the trees and so forth.

It was always back there, but the actual "light tower" was removed in I think it was 1901. The light tower that is one the house now was added when lighthouse point was opened.
