I've stay in the cabins before, around that little faux lake they've got going on. This year I tried to get another cabin, but all that was available was the cottages on the lake. What are the differences between the cottages and the cabins? There are going to be 4 adults total.
The cabins seem to be more suitable for people w/kids...kids love the loft.
Cottages have no loft, but have the lake view...and the wind that comes with that. That can make getting the charcoal going tough and cooking difficult.
It doesn't matter to me which one I stay at as long as I'm staying at Lighthouse Point. Tis the best way to visit Cedar Point.

I've only stayed in the cottage personally, but I loved it. When we stayed, we had 5 people (me, sister and two friends, mom) and we had absolutely no problem, and as far as I know everyone had their own bed? I don't remember.
The lake view is really nice, I think I ate every meal out on the little patio thing watching all the boats go by.

I think the cottages have more "official" sleeping places, but the cabins have the loft. Cottages are on the lake, cabins around a pond.
I have stayed in the cottages and loved it. Cooking on the grilling is rather difficult, but hey you're on the tip of Cedar Point staring at Lake Erie with the roar of TTD and MS behind you. Nothing can beat that.

Also: Cottages have the kids bunk beds in the room with the 'rents. Cabins have the loft, which keeps the kids out of the bedroom.

cottages are better in my oppion, nothing like seeing frieghters that close when you wake in the morning. Even though the cabins and cottages are basically the same size, the cottages feel more roomy and like i said before nothing beats that water view, but then again some the cabins have an awesome view of the mean streak.
Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.
At first, I forgot which one we stayed in. From the descriptions above, however, I apparently stayed in a cottage (#13, I remember that only because it was Halloweekends...). They are very relaxing, with really nice lake views, bunk beds, 2 T.V.'s, microwave, etc.
I stayed at the Cottages and loved them. I stayed in #34. Only negative was the price, $250 a night, and the distance from the park compared to Breakers.
The cottages feel more spread out, while the cabins look like the tried to pack as much as they could in a small space, with the loft, 2 futons, kitchen, etc.
I've stayed in a cabin before (I loved it), and I will be again next month. MrScott, it's not just kids who love the loft ;), but I think I might bring an air matress up there next time. We slept 5 in it no problem (2 in the bedroom, me in the loft, and one person on each fouton), and I don't think fitting 6 would be a problem, just put another person up in the loft. If the people on the foutons are snoring, the loft is a great place to throw stuff at them from.
The view of the lake sounds great, so I will have to try out a cottage one day. Like MrScott said, Lighthouse Point is the best way to visit Cedar Point.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
We fit 8 in one cabin. 4 in the loft, two in the bedroom, and one on each futon. It sounds like it would be crampt, but it really wasn't bad at all. We brought a small TV up into the loft and plugged it into the outlets up there. We also put an alarm clock in the loft, so the 4 of us sleeping up there could wake up and be in the park by 8:45 without waking everyone else. Lighthouse Point is great.

Cedar Dan - yes it was a cottage.
Skifan - regarding your comment on the distance, I somewhat disagree. I'm the only one in my family that likes to go in early, and I love that walk across the Soak City parking lot early in the morning, with TTD testing and the birds chirping and all (although I did get attacked by some black one once o_0). It does feel a little long when coming back later in the day though, on tired legs and such.

Cottages are a bit more flexible for adult sleeping arrangements, I think. I slightly prefer the cabin layout, because the bedroom is smaller (leaving more room for living space) and the kids sleep in the loft, giving us even more usable room. But I greatly prefer the cottage location on the breakwall--much nicer.
We're in cabins for the forseeable future, because we have younger kids. When they get a bit older, though, I'm going to lobby for the cottages.
I'm good with either one (though I agree the cottage location is preferable).
You get the best of both worlds: I little bit of camping and a little bit of hotel-ing it.

What's nice is that you can have different rooms. At Breakers Express a last summer we had to get two rooms because I had two friends as well as my family. This way, we can each have a separate room to sleep in allowing more privacy.
GeeForce, I agree the walk wasn't that bad at all, it was the fact that coming back in the afternoon, it was 97 degrees out, and at night we were exhausted at 11:30 getting off of Dragster, most of all thirsty.
We'll probably end up staying there again, they were beautiful, I like it much better than a hotel room.
If you go, walk to the WT gate. It's probably about the same distance too MF as the Magnum gate but the line is MUCH MUCH shorter.
Where exactly is the WT gate located? I don't want to go and try to take your advice and end up in the wrong place.
It's back by Ocean Motion. If you start on the beach by Breakers and just walk towards WT, you'll come across it.
Goodbye MrScott
John
