I saw this in General (sort of), now that we are in the right place time to run with it.
I always thought, like Red Garter Rob said that if a train had to be evacuated from the lift they would use the maintenance bucket and one by one get peeps down.
Actually someone brought it up one time and a Millennium Force op this year said the bucket was not designed to carry peeps and get them off the trains. He said that the must get out a cherry picker to get peeps of if a cable broke our they were stranded.
We should look into that more!

Problem with this theory is this... CP doesn't have a cherry picker that can make it past the 200ft mark on thier own. The cranes used to build this had to be brought in special and have long since moved onto thier next job.
Maybe this is a question that should be asked Friday at CM?!?!?!
I won't be there.. I have my daughter this weekend and yes, believe it or not, there are things more important in my life than emptying the Budweiser kegs at the Garter, riding coasters, and Louie's...

MF 2000 - 269 laps
MF 2001 - 59 laps as of (5/28/01)
Kay,,me being,,, well a big fat chicken when it comes to heights, would surly enjoy MF more if she knew there were a safe easy way fer her ta climb down should she be stuck. SO......I would love to know exactly how this would be managed. This way when I re-visit the Point, I wont have this incredible fear hanging over me head there for making my Force ride, well less stressfull!
(Kruggies biggest fear: stuck on the MF lift, having to walk down)(this thought plauged her from the time she entered the queue, till she was over the hill)

Why would they build something that tall that you couldn't get out of? The panel on the track side of the vehicle opens. You can get people out. Just hope it never has to happen.

Crady Crady!! CRADY CRADY!!

I bet they would put a safety harness around you before releasing your restraint. They would not put a guest in a position where they could fall off the lift hill.
Unless you're at Six Flags America. :) Steph and I were walked down the lift there (similar trains) when the chain broke. They did have a guy with fall protection on, and had three people grabbing the person on the outside, where there were no stairs. Good times!

For those of you who never have worked at a park, you should learn some of the evac procedures for the larger rides. At the Adventuredome we have evac training every few months and boy, the ride ops our selves have enough problems with procedures let alone guests. Being a 100ft up holding on to a shaking handrail can effect people. You should read and see some of the things ride ops have to do to save people sometimes.

Vegas, sounds like some scary reading to me,,would like to read it though,,hee hee,,something to keep me up at night shaking with fear!
Again,,I would be content to just sit and wait no need to evacuate me.

??? If the lift cable broke, don't they have a cable wench that connects between the train and the top of the hill so that the train could be pulled over the top ?? Dave, haven't you designed something like this yet?

:) "Did you know this goes up-side down" :)
P.S. at bit off topic.
What happens to the catch car when the cable breaks. Does it rollback ?? However, the motor would have a heart attack before the cable broke.

Having looked closer at the catch car...
There are no anti-rollbacks on the catch car, as nearly as I can tell. So if the hoisting cable were to fail, the catch car would probably go sailing backwards down the lift hill and into the station. What I am not certain of is what would become of all that return cable, also coming down the hill. The return cable attaches to the front of the catch car, so it doesn't go through the station. But even so, there's a few hundred feet of it to deal with as the catchwagon comes down the hill. Like the chain on S:ROS, the catchwagon would slide right out from under the train, leaving the train attached to the lift by its anti-rollbacks.
It just so happens that a catastrophic failure of the hoisting cable is about the only thing that would prevent the train from being simply hoisted over the top and dropped to run through the course of the ride. So unless the ride snaps a hoisting cable, don't count on getting a ride in that nifty little funicular. :)

How about a catastrophic failure of the lift motor?
They could probably rig something up to get the train to the top of the hill. Somewhat related - did anyone ever see the cabinet on the Sky Ride marked "Hand Crank Chain"?
