Why do the Geauga Lake Wildwater Kingdom lifeguards each blow their whistle 2 short blows (as if to get each other's attention) and then bend down? They do it every couple minutes or so...what does it mean?
I am a guard at Kings Island. We don't do exactly that, but we do similar things. Anyway, what they are doing is known as the "5 Minute Strategy." It is supposed to keep your attention on the water. It is thought that if you change your posture or position every five minutes, you will be more alert and vigilant. If you are in a sitting spot then you will stand up and maybe walk for about 10 seconds or so, if you are already standing, you can walk or crouch, and if you are walking, you crouch. Hence the name, it occurs approximately every five minutes, and I believe it does work. I always have trouble sitting still for a long period of time, so I do like the "5 Minute Strategy."
