Length of Project Maverick

Well, my dad long before he died worked construction and they worked mostly yr round course that was in Southern Ohio, and not as cold as being on the lake..I believe they can add a special chemical that helps the pouring of it in the winters.. I have a friend who drives a Rock and Roll truck {cement} I'll ask him what they add or do to cement so it can be poured in the cold. Our winters haven't been as bad as they use to, espcially here in the Center of the BUCKEYE NATION, so you have to take account the changes in the winter here in Ohio as well.

Your right, I should have more respect for a place that I love ( as a guest), and I shouldn't have revealed that info, I never said I was perfect, and I never said I was right, what I heard is just something someone heard from somone who heard who heard from a construction worker. And I said I think they were telling the truth because if you look at the pictures you can see how it will play out. One example thats it and I won't say no more, look at the Aug. 10 update pics, the the pic of the one support thats on the ground, you can tell that it's one of the beginning supports for the lift, now why wouldn't it just be a single support in the middle like every other coaster? My opinion because of the launch I think that will come from under the station, so you need clearence. Oh and yeah I was busy this summer, and I was just saying what Monty said, but you are right about they don't design them (CP), they just say what they're looking for

If CP is building Maverick NOW simply because they can, or because it's cheaper to build in summer, then why did they not do so with Millenium Force, WT? Or for that matter a certain little coaster called Dragster?

No, I highly suspect there is something else afoot. What, I have no idea. Will August hurry up and get here? Oh... never mind. :)

Because both of those coasters would have required the closing down of large areas of the park to the bulk of construction. The current site is tucked back in a corner and doesn't require them to shut down midways to move parts in and out.

Neither did Millennium; all it had were the railroad tracks, much like the current location. I'm sorry, but think about it, the whole thing about them "having the space, so now they can start early" doesn't make any sense. They're building it now because that's what the construction time table warrants.

Except that a good chunk of Millennium's construction took place on the island, to which parts and equipment could not easily be transported while the park was open.

It's not like a good chunk of it wasn't off the island though, in an area that could be fairly easily accessed.

Don't forget, that both MF and TTD had to have the pond drained... which would of hindered the boat ride and also impacted SD with the effect of traveling over water.

That sounds like a nominee for understatement of the year.

But they would not have needed to close much for WT, MF could have had much construction done away from the island without closing much of anything as well.

Heaven forbid the boat ride gets closed. Did you forget they closed WWL last year?

I was at cedar point on physics day, and had a chance to talk one on one with Monty Jasper, and he was telling me two big reasons its so under wraps, is 1 to build anticipation and it's obviously working look at us (lol), and 2 because they don't want to reveal it until the time were they think no other park has enough time to throw something together and try to mock it, like they did with MF and TTD. Atleast those were Monty's words, and it's not like X because the track is not made like X, X has a whole diffrent type of track

I believe it. Makes more sense than what everyone else has been 'hearing' from workers at the park.

Just remember Leslie, this guy's not exactly the poster child for true and informed posts.

Did anyone ever think that building rides is getting pretty expensive. Spreading the cost of building Maverick over 2 fiscal years may make more sense for the Cedar Point.

Yeah, but who is?

Any type of capital improvements as such is always done with credit. Credit is a good thing for businesses. Spending it over 2 years wouldnt make sense. The lenders had to approve the loan and pay the manufacturer either upfront or with a downpayment as security. With ride manufacturers only turning out a couple a year...if that... they need to pay their employees in the process and I would imagine they would require the payment up front before manufacturing.

You tend to only bash other people's posts- never had anything to say good yourself!

Your logic is flawed. It takes around 3 years to plan a coaster. Remember when TTD was being built? That was when SF:GA started planning KK. So where does waiting do anything? I doubt Monty fed you that load of BS.

<Matt>
101 on Magnum and counting...

I think he might be mostly referring to the steel dragon 2000 construction shortly after Millennium Force. Though i highly doubt that actually happened because Steel Dragon had such a complex support structure because of earthquake regulations, and i believe it was something like 50 million dollars. You don't just come up with that sort of money to out do another roller coaster.

Not to mention it was the "pivotal" year 2000 and people were looking for the NEXT BIG THING.

Though i guess they could've made the lift hill slightly taller just to "one up" the competition with no significant difference to the rest of the ride, but who am i to know what other parks' tendencies are?

I just hope blank is DEAD WRONG about the competition secrecy because that might mean the announcement won't be heard for some time :(

There is nothing quite like becoming a human windshield on Millennium Force
