Legal Department at Cedar Point

Okay--I was looking back through all of the old posts and came across the few dealing with ride accidents and got to thinking about the huge liablity which Cedar Fair must incur especially in this litigious society of ours. I wonder if they have their own legal counsel or if they go with a firm? I wonder how many times a year they get sued as well? I am sure a lot of this information is kept quiet though for obvious reasons. Anybody else ever wonder about this or have any thoughts about it?

Why would they get sued when they never have any accidents?

The last I recall was when the Corkscrew chain broke and there were a few scrapes.
Companies can get sued for no reason, it happens all the time. It doesn't mean the person will always win.

Number 1 And Only Cedar Point.
One day while at CP (Day red train rolled back) it started to rain and we went in the IMAX theater. There was no movie showing, but a guy in a suit with a CP tag on was standing there at the bottom looking around. IT WAS AWESOME.

He showed us The POV and promo for the Force and talked about the ride. Later he answered questions most of them pertaining to the force. One interesting question how much liability insurance did CP have.

First he said he couldn't say, then he said they had some but wouldn't say the amount. He talked himself into telling us they had a 6 or 7 figure amount.

If I ever get hurt in a serious accident at CP (which will never happen), I am not going to sue for any money. I will ask for lifetime admission to the park, free resort stays and most of all a job, preferably in their new Meteorology department. I think that will add up to a 6 figure amount, they get no bad press AND a meteorology department.

Well, we know that Cedar Point has insurance coverage of at least $500,000 for bodily injury to one person and at least $1,000,000 for bodily injury to two or more people for each occurance. We know that because it is a requirement of the Ohio Revised Code, Sec. 1711.54, and Rule 901:9-1-01 (E) states that proof of insurance is necessary before a ride permit can be issued. :)
Beyond that, any liability issues are between Cedar Fair and their insurance carrier, and quite frankly are none of our business... :)

I do agree with Joe E. If I were ever injured on a ride at CP, I would'nt sue, I would rather just have liftime admition to the park, and the free resort stays is a nice addition. If I had that, I would be a happy camper, maybe some slight "VIP" type treatment, like Media Days, Preview Days, etc etc.

*Dude, Where's my car?*
Cedar Point itself doesnt have a legal department but the Cedar Fair LP does have a legal representatives, some of them serve on the Board of Directors
