DELETED! What time does the water show start?
You will need a couple things.
First, you will need to attach a little hook onto the front of the first cart you have.
Second, build a tower that is just a bit taller than your run up to the top hat is long. build it a bit behind the part of the top hat that the train goes up. Next, fine a few pound weight. Not too heavy, not too light. You dont watnt he train pulling 20 acceleration g's or something. Attach a string to it, with a pulley at the top of the tower. You can always devise a locking mechanism to keep the weight up when you want it, or you can even use a chain system to bring the weight up and down. Put a pulley just a bit below the track level (of the run up) and run the string from the weight, to the top pulley, to the bottom pulley, and have a little loop aroudn the end. you may even want to change it a bit so that the string goes all the way back to the weight in a constant loop so that the string doesnt come all the way out, and have a small loop at a spot so that the hook on the front/bottom of the train can hook into it. Otherwise I would reccoment having a knex or other piece tied within the string so it cant pass past the pulley on the bottom
As for release mechanism, you can probably rig it with the right angle on the hook so right when the train starts the incline, the string just slips off the hook, or you can always make a little block on the side of the track that will tap a part of the train when it goes by, which you can attach to the hook so that when it hits the hook will tilt parallel to the track and the string would come off more easily.
I think the best angle of a hook type mechanism on the cart would be with a very short hook, pointing straight down. Youl have to fool around with the weights to make sure there isnt too much so that it doesnt just pull the train and stop it if the hook doesnt come undone.
i think this method will give you more realistic acceleration, you can change the weight and get more speed, or you can even rig it so that the weight is just enough to get it over most of the time, but fail occasionally.
post results if you use my method. good luck.
