Launch...

I have one minor complaint about this ride...I wish that the trains could travel right into the launch section without slowing down with brakes. I am not sure if that would be possible at all but i think it would make the ride a lot more fun to be able to coast up to the launch section and then take off...

it has to have that block section or capacity would not fair to well (would mean on train at a time). its also there for safety reasons for the launch *** Edited 9/18/2006 7:45:30 AM UTC by BGRooDoG***

Besdies, launching to 70mph from a near stop will be more fun than launching from 30 or 40 mph or how ever fast the train will be going at that point.

Why are you complaining before the ride is even built? I mean really, don't you have anything better to do than clutter up the forums with useless comments?

Four discount funday tickets to Cedar Point: $130.96
Overnight stay at Breakers Express: $70
Riding rides the size of skyscrapers while "legally" breaking the local speed limit: Priceless

I used to think it would be more fun to just get a boost of energy while already moving along. But, think about it. A lot of people who have never ridden this thing before (or obsessed about it like we have) are going to think the ride is over. You're going back to the "station," slowing down, etc... Then, its going to blast off to 70mph and finish the circuit. I think that's going to be the best part. People are going to be surprised. I think it'll be great.

Besides, I think the actual speed of the animation is off slightly.

^ I guess that works if you're blind and haven't been waiting in line for 3 hours and watching the ride run.

There's no reason it couldn't hit the LSM's faster, but it probably will help reliability if the train is hitting at a consistent constant speed since the LSM's have to be fired more precisely than LIM's.

You'd be surprised what the average park-goer does and doesn't know about rides. The queue isn't anywhere near the exit of the tunnel. And, since the launch happens inside, I guarantee a lot of people won't know what's coming.

LOTS of people don't obsess about the workings of coasters like we do. I guarantee there are a lot of people that have no idea MF and TTD have magnetic brakes. I bet a lot of people don't even know TTD is launched with a cable. They probably think the brake fins are what launch it. LOL!!

But I think people can figure out that the loud screeching and the train flying out of a long straight tunnel is a launch. Sure they won't know its LSM's (in fact, I'll probably hear a lot of "This is just like Wicked Twisters launch), and you're right, they don't know that Millennium uses magnets for its breaks. But I'm pretty sure they know it uses a cable for its lift.

But, with LSM's there is no loud screeching. They're very quiet, kind of like a low hum/whirring sound.

I was unaware of that. I still give the non-enthusiast GP more credit than that though. I think they can figure out that there is a launch before ever getting on the ride.

You give them too much credit then. :)

People are just not that observant. I can't tell you how many people were surprised on "The Maelstrom" when it went backwards. You can SEE the boat going backwards before you even enter the queue. But, everytime I ride it, there are people in the boat that are surprised.

That's also 20 feet above your head and the boat peeks out and goes back in. I wouldn't be surprised that people didn't realize that it went backwards.

This is being launched, at ground level, right at the pond. I'm not saying everyone will notice it right away, but I'm pretty confident that a majority will.
