Kinzel himself said they will announce the new ride sometime in late August during today's press conference.

The CedarFair website isnt working on my computer! This is getting ridiculous, first the CP website, now the Cedar Fair website. Now I cant even listen to the podcasts. Although, thank you Walt for summing up the important info!

I wonder how much of the ride will be built by the time they announce it. The way they are going right now, you would think they would have some vertical construction well under way by late August
Perhaps someone could answer this... In recent years their capital improvement announcements have been made after the park is closed for the season. Millennium, I believe, was the last ride that was actually announced during the season. Did they hold a special press conference in the park that day, or anything along those lines? Or was it much like the way they do their announcements now, with the press release followed by the telephone press conference?

There hasn't been a press conference for any announcement that I can remember. Press kits go out the day before, info hits the Web site the next day.

There was a press conference for Raptor in September 1993, but that's the only one that I remember.
And that press conference contributed to one of the best promo videos I've ever seen for a ride.

When I was talking with John H. opening day, he seemed to favor a much later announcement date; such as early next year like TTD was in March. That makes more sense to me, don't give out numbers and facts to let your competitors know what youve got and how to beat you, plus the spectulation and hype builds more. IMO.

I've got news for you... Cedar Point has no competition. Even if they did, the competition would know by now what you're building. The industry is incredibly small. Everyone knows everyone's business. There are few true secrets.

even if they announced the new ride today.. the competition needs planning time.. budget time.... construction time.. so it would be possible to say.. oh cedar fair is building ride xxxx.. we are going to outdo them.. pick up the phone call a ride manufacturer and say hey guys we need one xxx amount taller faster bigger.. alot of fab work and computer design goes into them.. it is not a short term product campaign.. shoot it takes most compani4es months to come up with blueprints for small projects..

Hm, CP's site seems to be a bit of a hassel with mine as well. If I have it open in a window, and go to a different window then come back, it slowly loads the page block by block, kindof like my dialup did many many years ago.
