I read this a little while back, and thought it might be interesting to Pointbuzzers:

If Lake Erie drops 32 inches by 2050, I wonder how much additional land would pop up around the Point.

Well, that solves Cedar Point's space issues. ;)

Along with all the other Great Lakes. This is nothing new.

Well, that's fine, then. Less of a worry about Magnum being underwater!

Maybe they'll finally be able to put in a coaster with a real tunnel! :)

^ Instead of the race for the sky,

It's the race for the center of the Earth! ;)

Thats because magnum is sinking.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Sometimes I really wonder if people actually think that others will laugh or find it amusing when they say something about Magnum sinking...

Yeah, Magnum is now only 204'-11 1/2" tall. it has sank that much since it opened.:)

note: To save you having look up the original height it was 205'-0".

I heard that they're going to move the Magnum, and since Maverick just took the last available space, they'll have to send it to the old waterpark of Geauga Lake! ;) *** Edited 9/12/2006 3:08:59 PM UTC by stormchaser889***

read the very last topic.

It's a good thing we have you here to remind us that Magnum isn't sinking, otherwise we would all keep bringing it back up. ;)

Platinum has it's perks. So does living exactly 97.5 miles from King's Island and Cedar Point

I see that the joke is going way over someone's head.

I have heard that the earth is also pushing upwards. From what I understand the glaciers that formed the lake basins pushed the earth down, and now that there isn't as much weight pushing on the land, that ground is springing back up.

I think I learned that in a geography class a few years back.

I remember that from a college geology class about 20 years ago. Wow. I may still have a few brain cells left.

The process General Disarray is talking about is called isostatic rebound, and yes it is happening in the Lake Erie region. However, it's not a factor in the "shrinking" of Lake Erie, instead it's a really neat geological phenomena that affects most of Canada, especially the Hudson Bay area.

I'll be dead by 2050 anyway.
