Kudos to the Magnum Crew

I just felt that I needed to comment on what a great job the Magnum crew was doing today. When I rode around 1, they had all three trains going, and were working with amazing speed. They had every train checked and ready to go about five to ten seconds before the ready, ready. Those trains were departing very quickly.

I also saw that the Raptor crew was doing quite well today, although I saw them stack numerous times.

Nice to hear that something went good on OD :)

How long was the wait for Maggie? Did TTD effect queue length at all?

The longest I waited for Maggie was around 17 minutes which isn't bad at all.

I think TTD did have an effect on most of the bigger ride lines but it did kind of seem like some of the smaller coasters had longer lines than usual.

The crew was so great, that while in line, when the VP of Operations was coming up to check on things, I told him how great the crew was.

Magnum has and always will be one of the best coasters of all time. Take into account the great crew, even with all the roped off seats, and you get #1 for opening day!

But the real question is, How was she riding? Last year had to be one of the best rides i've had on Magnum in several years, is it still holding up?
Yeah, the Magnum crew was outstanding yesterday. I only waited about 15 minutes or so. The ride itself was great except for the trims like always.
When I rode Maggie, I kind of thought they were getting us out quicker than usual. We were ready with the thumbs up before the previous train dropped down the first hill. I noticed they paused till the train cleared the second hill till they let us go.
villageidiot, I noticed that as well. To me it seemed as if all the crews were jammin yesterday. (Aside from TTD of course but what do you expect, its a new ride.)

Honest truth told to me by marina gate readmissions host:

Host: Hand stamped, two cents.

Me: That's cool, I think I have two cents.

Host: I better not take it, by the time you leave here its all you'll have.

when i rode Magnum i got a no trimmed ride! and the crew was really fast! i love that ride!

Besides the great rides and being the best of everything, the best part about Cedar Point is that it isn't Six Flags! YAY!

Magnum was running a little slow all day (hence the lack of trims) but that was entirely because of the brutal cross-wind coming off the lake shore. Apart from that, it wasn't bad at all, except for all those seats that ***** managed to break... :)

when i was waiting in the station, one guy on the ride slapped the hand of a ride op as the ride went by, the op with the mic then made an announcement, "please do not slap our hands" which i thought was kinda stupid.
I only rode maggie twice, but both waits were less than 15 minutes, and I heardly stood still in the queue. So the ops did an excellent job. Kind of off topic, and with all due respect to magnum, I'd have to disagree with Sam that magnum was #1 on opening day....no matter what the wait Dragster was phenomonal. MF lines weren't all that bad either, I rode twice and waited about 45-60 minutes both times.

Richard, what'd you do?

Hey Raptor 1117, I was in the station at that time as well. I thought the announcement was pretty funny. If they didn't want idiots grabbing their hands, they shouldn't have been holding them inches above the heads of the people in the departing trains.

Raptor and Ralph: I'm sure they were either joking around (more than likely not ... sups are more jerks when things first open I... think...), there might be a rule against it (like if you slapped their hand and it was a new person and they were trying to make the new kid feel like a jerk because they told them not to do it or they'd get in trouble so they made an announcement...), there is some safety concerns (concerns safety wise might include reports of the person slapping their hand too hard or not letting go or just the occasional bad slap that twisted that persons arm and either tearing a ligament or ripping it out of place. While possibility is remote, it could happen very easily.), or perhaps the worker had his hand out giving the thumbs up sign saying that each person he's / she's double checking is still clear and have their seatbelts clicked and they slapped their hands and the worker was shocked and went along with it... any of the scenarios could be true but more than likely it's a park rule AND a safety concern...
All it would take was for some idiot to grab ahold of the ride op's hand, knock them off balance and have them fall onto the departing train or track. I get angry at my job when people grab me so I can see where they're coming from.

Has anybody noticed how rough Magnum has ridden lately? It's not Mean Streak rough, mind you, but ride Millie, then ride Magnum and you'll know what I mean. Especially on the pretzel, there's a spot where the train bumps so hard, I'm amazed the wheels stay on track!

I thought Magnum ran very nicely. It was never as smooth as MF, but that is part of the fun. I like coasters a little on the rough side (I wouldn't call Magnum rough though), makes you feel the speed more.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Magnum hasn't really changed since I've started riding it in 1998. I think people's perception of what is rough has changed. Sure, if you want a ride to feel like you're riding in your living room sofa, ride MF, but if you want a ride that has a bit of personality, board Maggie. It made my day Sunday when I was sitting down by the Magnum photo booth and this kid came off running up to his dad and said, "That ride is awesome - better than Millennium Force!"

It's all a matter of personal tastes. I don't know who that kid was, but him, me, and a lot of others must have the same taste in rides. ;)

As for the crew, it looked like they were hitting interval pretty much every time except for once and that was a set up. The ride must've been running somewhat slow because I heard 2 or 3 "ready ready's" and the train on the ready brakes almost made it into the station in time when I thought for sure that it wasn't even going to be close. It was good to meet Katy and also talk a little with Matt F at turnstyles. The only person on the crew I knew was Tanya so I was being shy about saying anything to anyone else, but she caught Kara and I walking down the exit ramp and introduced us to Katy so that was nice. I can't wait to be there in three weeks! :)

The back car of one train was completely roped off and the very back row of another was roped off too by the end of the day. At least the lapbar situation wasn't nearly as bad as last year on opening day though.
