Kings Dominion Crowds vs Cedar Point Crowds?

Hey guys, ill be going to Kings Dominion for the first time this summer. I was just wondering if it is just as crowded as Cedar Point or not nearly as crowded. (on average) I know it can vary in crowds each day.

The reason I am asking is because I am only going to be at Kings Dominion for one day, and if it is just as crowded as CP, I might consider getting a Fast Lane in order to get on everything in one day.

Kd does not even come close to the cp crowds. Very nice park to visit and you must check out bg when you are near.

yup!! That's where im going! It was either KD for two days or one day at each park. I chose one day at each cause I heard BG is really beautiful. And I really want to take a ride on Verbolten.

KD is doing Fast Lane this year? Didn't know that. Anyway, the crowds don't even compare. If I-305 is what you care about, it actually has some of the shortest lines in the park. As far as the other rides, my fiance and I did the entire park in one day (mid-May) without a problem.

I believe at the investors conference Matt said Fast Lane would be implemented at all parks.

Busch Gardens is by far my favorite park. It's amazing. Have fun.

Let's Get Weird.

I was at KD for their opening day last year, and it was a blast! We rode Intimidator 305 at least 10 times with a max 10min wait time all day! That was opening day, so idk how it will be the rest of the season, but have fun! We had a blast!

I was at KD last week of july last summer for my first time and was shocked with how short lines were, my longest wait was volcano and that was only 20 minutes

I WILL ALWAYS KICK THE SKY.

Awesome thanks guys! Is this the same for Busch Gardens Virginia as well?

Crowds are very high at Busch Gardens in the summer. Since there are not as many thrill rides and attractions like there are at Kings Dominion, the queue time for a Busch Gardens roller coaster can be from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. Busch Gardens Williamsburg is an awesome theme park though.

I went to King's Dominon during the earthquake last August, and the lines were short. There were times when Volcano and Flight of Fear got up to 30-45 minutes, but I-305 was never much longer than 10-15 minutes.

I don't really understand the short lines for I-305. It's an excellent coaster, and the grey-out issue seemed overhyped to me...I greyed out about on par with Millenium Force. The scenery / environment of the coaster was awful (a flat, barren piece of land), but the ride itself packed a punch. With its 1 or 2-train operation, I bet it'd have 2-3 hour waits if it was at CP or KI.

Overall, I really enjoyed King's Dominon. The park confused me though. It seemed pretty large, with a ton of rides...like CP & KI, yet the attendance was just not there. Most of the rides were running a fraction of a train full all day. How'd this park grow so big beyond what was really needed? Cedar Fair keeps adding rides to KD, but it seems like they should be tearing some down? I have a feeling that the new WindSeeker there is going to be cycling near empty often.

I went on a Saturday in July a few years ago, and the place was slammed. We were still able to do everything in a day, but we were met with 2 hour waits for Volcano and over an hour for Hypersonic (worst ride ever) and Flight of Fear.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Yeah, will admit I went on a weekday...a Tuesday and Wednesday. But in comparison to a Tues./Wed. at CP in the same August timeframe, attendance was significantly lower at KD. The yearly attendance numbers at KD are also a fraction of CP's, so it's a safe bet that KD will not be nearly as crowded as CP on average.

If SSL is concerned with crowds though, avoiding Saturday and July visits is probably wise. Also, notice the trend. Volcano will be the longest coaster wait, and Flight of Fear will probably follow. If you've been on the Flight of Fear at KI, you might just want to skip it? So, I'd get to the park at opening and run to Volcano. The rest of the day would probably be a breeze then.

If you end up catching Busch Gardens on a crowded day, look into the Quick Queue. It will let you ride all the major rides with no wait. Also look into the Behind the Scene tours. The coaster tour is suppose to be really good and you get to ride up to the top of Griffon and walk around. It also comes with front of line pass to the other coasters, plus ERT.
