Kid Arthur's Court
They ripped down a largely disused climbing structure which featured a mostly uninteresting climbing path and an unsanitary-by-nature ball pit which had been erected for the 1981 season. They replaced it with an entire midway extending from the Paddlewheel Excursions dock all the way over to a point across from the Gemini. Said midway includes a roller coaster, a bounce, a theatre, a grab joint, a Tilt-A-Whirl, a couple of kiddie rides, and a couple of junior rides that can handle kids and their parents. Overall, I think the kiddies come out ahead in the deal. And for us bigger kids, we get Millennium Force without losing the Giant Wheel.

Hey! All I did was climb the net! It wasn't very interesting either. It was better when it had the larger net with the bigger holes. Then you saw kids' legs go through it, and that was classic! I ran down it and almost knocked myself out on one of the vertical posts. Ouch!

I was never a big Kid Arthur's Court fan, and am glad to see it go (though the eventual rethemeing of the rest of the Kiddyland at the front of the park turned out nicely). When it was built, I was already too old for it. And what was to like? Not even my brother (who was still young enough to enjoy it) liked it at age 5! After all, they got rid of the Fun House for it. Sure, this is now just a bitter rant about things I liked being torn down for things I consider to be junk (see my now ancient post in one of the other boards--the one about the 70's and '80's, I think)--Fun House - KAC; Frontiertown Sky Ride - Draggin' Iron [sic]; Earthquake and Sky Slide - Berenstein (sp?) Bears...but I feel MUCH better now :-)

I considered Kid Arthur's Court a past time... just like Its a Small World at Disney.. have to do it once a year.. and the people that go with me suffer right along too. I'm gonna miss that place, but its probably for the better that its gone now. ohwell..

As a mom with five under 5, Kid Art's was a Godsend (Bear Country didn't exsist yet..) It got them out of the wagon and backpack and moving on their own power!!! I understand the ease of sit and spins...but little ones are stuck sitting all day. One of my very favorite memories/pix is the face of my son when he finally made it all the way up the net unassisted--it set the tone for overcomeing other obstacles later in life.
