Kelly on Mantis

I don't know if she post here, or if she read the forums, or if any of you know her. But when I was at the point the other day, I'm not sure what the problem was, but I guess I wasn't in the restraint correctly. Even though, I've riden it numerous times. She kept raising her hand to make it release. When it released she snaped "Sit! Sit!" I didn't quite catch her the first time. "Sit!" she barked again. Then I was confused. Because they tell you not to sit, so why was she making me sit? So she yelled a few more times to sit. And I did, she jerked my restraint up and down. Then it was followed by "Feet back! Feet back!" comands.

I know the job can be stressful, hot, and long. But don't take it out on guest.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Mantis crew has a decade-long tradition of sucking. It doesn't suprise me one bit.

I know Mantis has been blazing as far as intervals go this season. I hope now that the hot season is starting, that they aren't replacing guest courtesy with only worrying about interval. Its one thing if you are being stupid and not paying attention, its another thing if you are sincerely trying to be in the proper riding position...

I know I got barked at last time I rode as well... But it didn't sound quite as bad as what you had...

I know to get the belt buckled they had me "sit" or "crouch down a bit, it is actually easier to sit to get the belt buckled (minimizes the distance from shoulder to crotch) and then stand to get the height right.

Well, the belt was already buckled before she came. However, I don't think I was in the seat all the way back. I think my jeans caught on something. Regaurdless, the belt was buckled.

I dont remember having to crouch in the past to get the belt buckled... but thats exactly what I did wrong on my last trip. I was just standing there trying to be a good guest... and then I was told to crouch... when I didn't go far enough, I was given a slightly louder "MORE"... again, I wouldn't consider me being yelled at, but you could tell they were in a hurry....which isn't always a bad thing!

I don't know. If saving seconds on load time means angry employees, I'll take the friendly, slower option.

I'll bet Dollars to Pesos that Kelly gets approached by management within the next few days. We've seen it happen before and it'll happen again. The best example was my "the ripcord crew sucks" thread from a few years ago where the entire crew got reprimanded.

We have to bring up the '02 Ripcord Crew don't we? ::Hangs head in Shame:: I was gone before the reprimand though... I like to think that I was one of the nicer ones...

Maybe I won't be in as much of a hurry to get on Mantis this season as I thought I would....

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

I had something similar happen a few years ago where I was yelled at to sit. I was in the front right of the train by controls. After sitting the lady told me to jump, yes, jump. While in the air, controls locked the seat with my feet several inches off the floor. That was one painful ride. After emailing a complaint, I remember something being added to the spiel along the lines of "If your feet are dangling like you're on Raptor, raise your hand and a ride host will be around to assist you." Anyway, I just don't ride Mantis anymore. Too painful/uncomfortable of an experiece.

Oh, and for the record, the Rip Cord crew was awesome when I rode earlier this season.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

I hear the '06 Ripcord TL rocks and the entire crew reflects it. That's just what I hear, though. ;)

I rode ripcord in May and yes, the crew was very friendly.

Don't hate on the Mantis crew; there are no stupid/mean employees, only stupid and mean guests. ;-)

I don't know if I agree with calling someone out on these boards by name. I've had some people say some positive things about me on message boards related to my job, however, I still wish they hadn't mentioned me by name. It's not really the nicest thing in the world to do.

I agree with bholcomb that I don't like anyones name posted on this site for a negative thing without any proof. But I did notice the rushing of guests for no reason which included Move, move, move over the mic on a ride this year. Also the annoucement 'We only have 30 seconds to get you loaded and checked'.

Guess what, I don't care as a guest. Make me laugh, make me smile, give me some facts about the ride but don't rush me to the point I'm not happy and feel like cattle.

2004,2005 Food Services
2006 One Long visit

My first-ever trip to the Point, and thus first-ever ride on Mantis, this year left a somewhat sour taste in my mouth. As we were loading, the person on the mic kept screaming at the crew to move faster because "we're not hitting interval!!!" and right after that, the same person yelled at the guests over the mic that "If you don't stand up, we're not going to dispatch the train. If you want to sit down, we have 15 other coasters you can ride"

Now, had that been said in a nice manner, it would've gotten the point across in a great way...but the crew member instead decided to bitch out the entire station. Needless to say, my visits to Mantis in the future will be few.

unfortunatly, the friendly, slower employees are frowned upon by management. numbers are HUGE to them, and saftey is second. They may cry saftey first, but if you aren't making numbers then they don't care.

That's a pretty strong statement SCarolina01, especially "they don't care". "Safety is second"? Hmmm...CP seems to have an EXCELLENT safety record and that doesn't happen by accident (pun intended).

Doesn't sound like that on Mantis.
