Jumbo jet location

I just saw some pictures of the jumbo jet from 1972 and 1978 and its looks like it was where the demon drop is now.

I would swear it was where the current wildcat is located

But then again i was 10 in 1978

Can anyone clear this up for me

I can help you. The Jumbo Jet was located on the current site of the Disaster Transport (close by the beach). You're kind of right. The old Wildcat location used to be where DT currently sits (before it was Avalanche Run). Hope this helps!!
I'm pretty sure that it was where Disaster Transport/Wicked Twister are now.

Jumbo Jet was located much closer to where Disaster Transport is located today.

Too lazy to check but look at the gallery section of GTTP or visit virtualmidway.com for historical photos.

Well isn't that interesting...Three responses all within one minute of each other..At least we all have the same info:) except the WILDCAT was first where Oceana is located, then was moved to where Jumbo Jets had been (Avalanche Run/ Disaster Transport site) then it was moved to it's current location

Thanks for the info

Next question

Was the JJ ever located anywhere near the wildcat is now

Rather was it ever in more than the one location

Another question is...was it a good ride?? I heard that it made some claims to be the tallest something or fastest something...i cant remember. But it looks like an interesting layout. For any of our CP alumni, what can you say about the ride experience itself??? And what caused its quick demise??

I always dug the Jumbo Jet. It was unique coiling slowly up the tower, and then it was all about great banked turns. Very smooth, very fun. Comfortable trains, no restraints, sit log flume style, and handlebars on the outside of the cars. The Millennium Force reminds me of it only of course, on a much grander scale. The smooth fast ride of it. I saw somewhere that the folks at Schwartzkopf were going to produce their classic rides on a much larger scale, I would love a giant Jumbo Jet. I was sad to see it go, it was a sight!
I thought it was a lot of fun, especially with the seating arrangement and no restraints. Very comfortable ride. The dips and banks made it a blast.

At the time it seemed like an absolutely awesome ride, and certainly the spiral climb and seating configuration was unique, but it's hard to compare with what we have now given the long passage of time. I do remember that Gemini was much more exciting and seemed massive by comparison when it came out. Still I would love to ride JJ again to see how it stacks up.

The ride itself was great. Lots of banked turns at high speeds. The trains had a very open feeling, and there were no restraints of any type. It was like sitting in a log flume. The ride had no airtime, that's why the restraints were not needed, but had very strong positive Gs throughout the entire ride.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

I wonder why, when they do videos on Cedar Point's history of roller coasters, or even the one they are selling now "The Roller Coasters of Cedar Point,"(with past and present coasters), they never include the Jumbo Jet? It was a big deal back then, I still have a few newspaper ads for it in my scrapbook. Just curious...remember the commercial jingle: "Cedar point is a Jumbo Jet and a Giant Wheel and a Sky Ride......." Sorry if the memory is off a little....
I thought JJ is still around. Its in a six flags park in Mexico if memory serves me right.

I still think that area of the park is cursed for coasters.

The Jumbo Jet was in 1972 was what Millennium Force was in 2000. That is the ride you had to ride. Unfortunatly I was only 7 at the time. I do remember it breaking down a lot. I think if I read right that when Cedar Point bought Valleyfair they had planned to send the Wildcat to that park which they did. But they decided to remove JJ and put a new Wildcat in its place. Jumbo Jet remains the last coaster removed from Cedar Point.
I think ACE news said that La Feria park in Mexico City put the ride in there. The old Laser Loop from Kennywood is alos there. That park is famous for the La Montana Rusa woodie.

The Jumbo Jet was also one of the few coasters my mother ever rode. One ride was enough for her.
Tim thanks for clearing this up for me. I knew the JJ was somewhere in that area of the park at one time.

Does anyone know what year it was moved to the DT site?

Jumbo Jet was always by the beach, the original Wildcat was where the Oceana stadium is, and when the Jumbo Jet was yanked, the old Wildcat went, and a new Wildcat was put where the Jumbo Jet was by the beach. Then, when Avalanche Run was installed, the Wildcat was moved to it's current place. Musical chairs with coasters.....
Jumbo Jets were exactly where Disaster Transport is today.

According to Roller Coaster Database:

Went to a park in Massachusetts after leaving Cedar Point. The Jumbo Jet has been refurbished and will open on May 1, 2001 at Beoland, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

Jumbo Jet Lives!!
