With the Jr. Gemini getting a new name for next season, I was a bit surprised to find out that that coaster had one additional name, prior to its opening....I was going through some old press releases I found from 1978 and was surprised to find the planned kids coaster had a different name. Can anyone remember what it was?

Seeing as it has neither a wooden structure nor dueling trains, whatever the name was, I'm sure it was better than Jr. Gemini.
I'm not quite sure why they didn't use this opportunity to simply tear it down.

Because it is the only coaster for the very young toddlers. Woodstock Express is way too intense for a 1st time coaster riding toddler. Believe it or not a lot of kids are even scared on Jr. G. Besides the kids love it and so does Grandpa (me). :-) I was relieved to learn that it was staying.

According to a 1978 CP press release, also trumpeting the advent of the Wildcat and the Wave Swinger, the coaster was originally to be named "Little Gem". Who knew?

I do alot of CP research. That is a great little tidbit. I'll trade you a link to that info for a link to info on the originally planned name of the Corkscrew back in 1976. Anyone know what that was?
My dad hates Woodstock Express! His favorite ride was the Paddlewheel Excursions but I thought Woodstock would be tame enough to take his grandson on... he hated it!
^^^ TimChat2, you nailed it. I'm impressed that you knew that. I just discovered that recently and never heard of that as a kid (during Corkscrew's opening year).
Enjoy!:

Lake Erie Serpent would have been a great name. I wonder why they changed it to the somewhat generic Corkscrew? The Corkscrew name was actually the name Arrow used for the version without the vertical loop. Geauga Lake had a standard Corkscrew for a number of years.
