Joe Cool Picnic

Last Sunday was the first day for Joe Cool Club picnic meals in at the Point Pavillion. Did anybody here give it a try? I was in the park on Sunday and completly forgot about this offer. I'm curious to see what type of meal you can get for $7. If it is a spread like those buffets at Coastermainia, then I think $7 would be a great deal. I've become addicted to Famous Dave's and that is really starting to hurt my wallet.

I didn't know they had a Joe Cool Club pinic thing. Is it just for JCC members? A few of my friends will be Pissed off when i come walking out with food. Lol.

We we're there last weekend, and didn't know anything about it. (Another JC perk cool). But at 4:00 or so we seen the sign there at went back to see what was up, we asked what there was and they said hot dogs, potato salad, chips beans and other "Picnic" type foods, we will be checking it out this sunday....

The CP website says that the menu will vary. I'm not a big fan of hotdogs, so I hope next Sunday there will be some burgers or something else.

For anyone else that isn't aware, serving time is noon-4pm. Joe Cool Club only.

I went and it is exactly the same as a Coastermania picnic. And that is hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, fried chicken, cookies, ice cream cups and Pepsi products. They write your pass number down on a separate sheet and I saw that I was the second person of the day to eat there, 1.5 hours after it started. It was also strange eating in there all by myself. And at $7.00, not a bad deal.

Wow, the pavilion was that dead huh? My magic 8 ball predicts that this may be a Joe Cool benifit that will bite the dust. I wonder how many Joe Cool members are actually in the park on a Sunday. Maybe a little more publicity could boost the attendance for this passholder perk.

There was a significant number of Joe Cool Club members at the Soak City/Resorts entrance gate prior to the 9:00 AM opening. I think that most members either didn't know about it of forgot about it. And yes I agree, it's a benefit we likely won't see next year.

Shortly after Noon yesterday my friends and I made our way over to the Point Pavilion to satisfy our hunger. As we rounded the corner at sneak peaks, I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by Joe Cool himself. After a few photos with the big dawg, we continued on to the pavilion.

Instead of finding an endless buffet of picnic goodies, we found ourselves and three or four other families staring at an empty pavilion, and empty food tables. "Where is the food?" We all said to each other. The one employee that we saw exiting the back area of the Midway Market had no idea what we were talking about. So my party and the other families that were there turned around and headed back out into the park, waving good-bye to Joe Cool as we left.

I thought that maybe we had the times wrong or something, so we stopped in at Guest Services to see what was up. Again, even they had no idea what the Joe Cool picnic was. They made a phone call for us and said that if we made our way to the Point Pavilion, someone would be there.

So back we went. This time a young lady greeted us and directed us to the buffet. It was set up all the way in the far right pavilion, closest to the Raptor. Hidden behind a tall row of hedges was a table of chicken, hot-dogs, potato salad and for desert...a cookie in a bag.

I'm not a potato salad eater so I just pigged out on fried chicken and cookies. Since the buffet was set up in a pavilion so far from the beverage stand, an employee was nice enough to run beverages back and forth for us. (Should I have left her a tip?)

As we ate we watched through the hedges the number of guests that would walk in and then turn back around in confusion. It sort of upset me that this was happening until finally I overheard an employee on the phone asking to have a temporary sign set up to direct guests to the well hidden picnic area.

Overall...good food, small selection (no ice cream, no baked beans), poor implementation. But what can you expect for $7. *** Edited 6/28/2004 9:11:13 PM UTC by Rihard 2000***

My family and I are first year JC members so we are trying to take advantage of any of the perks possible. Sunday is our favorite day to go. So on Father's Day, I went to the CP website to see what other perks we might try to use other than ERT. The JC picnic sounded like a good idea. When we entered the park last Sunday, a couple workers were placing a sign next to Sneak Peeks. Around 1:00 we decided to chow down and went to check it out. If it didn't sound like anything we wanted, we were ready to head to East of Chicago's buffet. Raptor0137 described it perfectly. So we tried it out and it was pretty good. The sheet that they wrote down our season pass # on showed 4 people before us tried it out.

I talked to the supervisor on duty there to see what the menu might consist of in the future. He said that this would stay the same for the next couple of weeks, but he heard they may change it to an Italian type of buffet with things like rigatoni. I also told him that if it wasn't for the web site, we would have not known about this. He agreed that there was not enough advertisement about it.

So we went back yesterday and the menu was the same except there was no ice cream and the baked beans were replaced with a fruit salad. I have to say that was the worst fruit salad I have ever had. The beans would have been better.

Overall for $7 it's not too bad. Just hope the word gets out about it to other JC members or as Rihard 2000 said it will bite the dust.

So again, the food at Cedar Point sucks. :)

Oh yeah, I forgot about the fruit salad. I had one bite of it and spit it back out. LOL.

As long as one member of the family (group) you are in has the Joe Cool Club, your whole family can get in right? You all have to pay the $7.00 though. Correct me if I am wrong.
I think that if they would advertise the Joe Cool Picnic more that more Joe Cool Club members would come. I didn't hear a thing about it until I read this thread and now that I have im going give it a try next time I head out to the Point.

Where did you hear that randininator? That's not they way it works for morning ERT, so I don't see why they would let non-Joe Cool club members in for the picnic.

Richie A.

They told me that it was for JCC members only.

Let's go straight to the Merry-Go-Round!

I didn't hear that....all I know is for ERT we all got in the park early while just one person in our family had the Joe Cool Club on their season pass...so I was just wondering if it was the same way for the Picnic.
Wait a minute... look what it says on www.cedarpoint.com

New for 2004, stop in at the Point Pavilion to enjoy a picnic meal for only $7 for adults, and $5 for children under 48” tall. Offer is valid every Sunday from June 20 to August 22 (excluding July 4) and cannot be combined with any other coupon or discount offer. The menu will vary. Picnic meals served from noon to 4 p.m

Now how many kids under 48" would be a Joe Cool Club member? They can't do much if they are. They are not even tall enough to ride the rides for ERT. *** Edited 6/30/2004 2:20:38 PM UTC by randinator***

As far as I know, you cannot buy a JCC add-on for a Junior pass. I also recall reading somewhere that Jr. passholders can get JCC perks that they would otherwise qualify for if they are with an adult who has JCC. In other words, my kids can come into the park during ERT time with me, but they obviously can't ride the coasters. I would presume the same holds true for the picnic.
But it just doesn't make sense for all 4 members of the group to have the JCC. I mean look at the half of the benefits, if all 4 members were at the Chuck Wagon eating or something, they wouldn't need to see all 4 members passes...I know that for ERT we all got in the park early and we only had one JCC membership.
Then they didn't look at your passes good enough, and the other 3 should have not got in.

My family of 4 has 3 regular combo JC passes (one with parking) and 1 junior combo pass. You can't get a JC for a junior, but they obviously won't make your child wait outside the front gate without you.
