Hey Jeff, I just read a terrible rumor saying that Six Flags is looking to purchase Cedar Fair, and was wondering if the Six Flags Empire was big enough to buy Cedar Fair. I understand they are a large company, but I have also heard that they may be billions of dollars in debt. With that said, can you offer any "assurance" or "comments" on this rumor? Also, is Cedar Fair BIGGER than Six Flags...Thanks....mikey :)
Six Flags/Premier Parks is bigger than Cedar Fair.

Even if they were looking to buy Cedar Fair, I doubt seeing Kinzel selling.
Sorry, but this sounds a little far fetched, doesn't it? I mean, Six Flags buying out a single park is one thing, but an entire chain, and one the size of Cedar Fair is a little hard to swallow. Anything is possible, but this seems a highly unlikely. Besides, I think that would REALLY suck, as much as I enjoy a lot of Six Flags parks. Cedar Fair seems like one of the better park chains out there, even though I've only been to Knotts. Peace. :)

CF billions in debt, I seriously doubt it. If anything I could see six flags in debt, but not Cedar Fair.

As a person that follows both Cedar Fair and Six Flags Inc. (AKA PREMIER PARKS) Six Flags is 2 Billion Dollars in Debt due to Over expansion they have will not admit it but recent SEC Filing's Show's that Six Flags Might be looking into Selling off Parks to pay the bills in 2003 or sooner. If they can not come up with a better game plan. Cedar Fair on the Other hand Will Continue to Grow Slowly but will show the Amusement Park industry that they are Still the Best in the Business just look at their records.

After reading the SF SEC report, it appears that SF is 2 billion dollars in debt. The main problem with that debt would be the $149 million yearly interest. It appears that CF has $200 million dollars or less of debt (if they even have any anymore!) Either that, or I was lost in the financial mumbo-jumbo of the SEC reports! Investors rate PKS and FUN about the same (strong/mod buy, though many more investors pay attention to PKS.)

Six Flags isn't known as Premier Parks anymore. That's why they changed the name.
The Cedar Fair annual report says $300 million in long-term debt.

Is PKS still the stock symbol?

Just out of curiosity, Cedar Fair is a limited partnership, not a stock, per se. Isn't their leadership structure, especially vis a vis buyouts, different than the norm?
It is, but don't ask me how. They actually have "partnership units" and not shares. You also get this odd tax form (K-1 or something like that). I think you're technically supposed to pay taxes in several of the states (not Ohio) that the LP does business in. My accountant said it would be less than a dollar and not to worry about it. Your dividends are apparently not taxable by the feds.

Yeah, PKS is Six Flags Ticker symbol. FUN is Cedar Fair's. FUN is a fun ticker symbol.
