Jeff, how did you start???

Your site has improved over the years it has been up. It has had more URL addresses then the Spice Girls have hair styles. What made you choose Pop World Media? How did you start out with this site? How do you get to take the pictures you do on Cedar Point's property??

Yea I think it would be cool if you could have a timeline showing how this site has improved over the years!

So many questions...

The many URL's occured because, like an idiot, the current one never occured to me. Prior to this year, I didn't really have a lot of money to register other domains either. I struggled just to pay for the hosting.

I'm still not making money, which is fine, but I really don't want my hobby to bankrupt me either. If the ads can support the 200,000+ impressions now (though January is on pace for 300,000), I should be OK.

POP World Media came about when searching for a name that somehow referenced popular culture on the World Wide Web. The domain was available and I registered it back in '97. Since then I've been offered five-digit dollar figures for the domain, but no deal. I'm kind of attached to the name (as are my checks, check card, etc.).

In March of '98, I realized that I had been an adult for several years (three if you count college graduation as the start of adulthood) and could buy a season pass to act on my suppressed passion. And since I really liked my shiny new Canon, I figured I would shoot photos and share them.

Then it occured to me that I could use the Web to do all of the things I've been trained for, namely write and eventually edit video (still haven't done much of that). HTML and graphics came over time... a lot of time. There have been three significant versions of the site. The first was really bad. The programming in VB Script for Active Server Pages didn't come until about three months ago when I endeavored to reinvent the site. In that respect, I'm self taught, but journalism, audio, video, marketing, etc., are what I have experience in.

Be forewarned... I haven't updated that site in ages, so it's grossly outdated.

As far as getting into Cedar Point, it only happened once, when I did the "Some Assembly Required" feature. I have a decent relationship with th ?????? ?? ?????? ??? ? ?????? ????? ???? ??? ???? ???? ???? ??? ??????? ???????????????????? ??? ????? ??? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?? ??? ?????
How Jeff, you are cool.

I showed my Director of Info Systems here at school today The Guide, and told him about how you did CP Place, and he was like damn, that dude is smart. I guess that he was impressed. I have basically taught myself HTML and I know that it is hard. I just have to say kudos to you and all your hard work, and just think, Amazon.com still isnt making money yet either.

Amazon will start making money the day investors start selling, but that's another story...

Being smart really has nothing to do with it. It has to do with subjecting yourself to as much experience as possible. My first couple of years out of college sucked because I couldn't do what I wanted for the money I wanted. I bounced around through so many different types of media jobs that I picked up a lot of skills I wouldn't otherwise have. Despite some hard times, it was good for me in the long run, I just didn't know it at the time.

Learning is a never-ending process, though many would contend that it gets more difficult with age. Ask me to translate French after six years of it from grade seven to college, and I'll look at you with a blank stare. The things you're interested in you can pick up. The programming language used for this site can be easily learned by anyone who took a little programming in high school.

[Hums "America the Beautiful"] The truth is you really can do anything you set your mind to. Life can be a real pain in the ass and beat you down, but getting through it is just one of the challenges you have to meet to be a happy, productive and fulfilled person.

Brought tears to me eyes. Obviously your site was okay in the beginning because it was on my yahoo search. I also liked the name which brought me to your site before another site.
