Wow those pictures really help put TTD in a little bit more perspective with the rest of the park. Great post!

My friend's dad has a plane. They've promised to take me flying over CP sometime, but it hasn't happened yet :( Those pictures are really cool.

Cedar Point really doesn't have a space problem. I mean, I knew that before but that really shows it.

Ohio State, here I come!

Wow those pictures are spectacular. Thanks for the link Dan.
Not only great pictures of CP, but also of my second favorite place to visit...the pictured rocks lakeshore.

Those photos do give you a good perspective of the fact that the actual park only takes up about half of the peninsula.

I live about 5 minutes away from a small airfield (Metcalf.) The people there told me it would cost about 80 bucks total to fly over the point and up to 2 other people could come and help break up the price.

Last summer I actually managed to fly over the park. I got pictures but they weren't quite as good as those. (Couldn't expect too much from my camcorder that doubles as a digital camera too) It was an awesome experience no doubt and I would recommend that if you have no fear of flying in a small aircraft, that you oughta try this out.

It's not an island.. ;)

It's not an island, but it used to be! I think that sometimes we forget that C.P. is surrounded by water on three sides and that we have to cross a bridge over water to get there making it seem more like an island.

No, it's always been a peninsula. Well, at least as far as modern history goes. I wasn't around when glaciers created Lake Erie.

That bridge that you cross over is only one way to drive to Cedar Point.

Mapping software still makes it look like an island. Connected to the mainland with the Causeway and also with the Chaussee. And I thought that the book" Cedar Point the Queen of American Watering Places" had labeled it an island until an automobile road (the Chaussee) was constructed in 1914. But it looks like I may stand corrected. Before that road was built, it still was being referred to as a peninsula.
Cedar Point has always been a peninsula. When you enter the parking lot off the causeway and hit that first cross-road before the spots begin, look right. That's the peninsula (with houses and other things) stretching away. Cedar Point is also really long, at least a couple of miles from the park to the mainland.
you used to have to take a boat into point. That means that there would be water on all sides being a island.
The causeway is man-made, but the chausee is natural and has always connected what we, today, consider Cedar Point to the mainland. Although the primary means of transportation to the Point used to be boat, this is simply because there was no road on the chausee at that time. Cedar Point was not reachable by automobile, but it was never an island. It has always been a peninsula.

The historical sign by the Marina gate says "Although Cedar Point is a peninsula, not an island, the narrow sand bar connecting it to the mainland was not accessible to vehicles until 19XX" or something along those lines. It is a peninsula, but just barely.

If anyone has not done the parasailing at CP, I'd highly reccomend it. It was awesome seeing the whole park from 400 some feet high (I recall being about eye level with TTD during my ride). The cost is pretty steep, but employees got 50% off this season...making it well worth it in my mind. I don't see why they wouldn't let you take a camera, either; you sign a wavier that basically says if you die that North Coast is not responsible. If I had brought a camera... I'd probably have some pictures similar to that.
