Man nothing worse than a bug-suck on MF early in the morning! *ACK*
What is your most memorible coaster mishap story? Smacked in the face by someone's glasses? Horsefly up the nose? Catch a ball cap on it's way by? Mine was a birdstrike just before the second ride photo on TTD! I was in the front row of the 3rd car in the train. We hit a small bird (red-wing blackbird we thought) doing 120. Everyone had feathers in their hair and shirts! The poor girls in the front seats got pelted with bird guts *ick*. The ride photos were... interesting... couldn't see a whole lot as the second shot is kinda small.

Actually, isn't this mayfly season? Muffleheads show up later in the summer (well, a few weeks from now anyway).
Could be. Hard to tell from this picture although I think muffleheads tend to have antenae that look like ferns. Either way, they make a mess by the lake! Nothing I hated worse than having to shoo a few hundred bugs off my tarp at the boat before I could even uncover it. Small price to pay for recreatin' at the lake I guess.
Mayflies show up in late may/early June (Just in time for coastermania!). Muffleheads show up later in the season and are more furry looking.
Plus, mayflies splatter. Muffleheads explode.
Muffleheads can start to appear much earlier, and they can stick around late into the season. It's the volume that varies, but the first week of June is known for high volume. Ask about the potato salad at Coastermania a few years ago.

Yes, I just noticed that the picture saved much smaller than it was on the webcam page. Harder to see, but I'm thinking those 3 on the picture are mayflies.
Regardless I'm a little disappointed nobody has any interesting riding stories. I mean, don't get me wrong I just love talking about Muffleheads and Mayflies. Why, entomology is my second most favorite hobby... *cough* ... A thousand appologies for picking a lame topic... lol. Maybe I should have waited to bring the topic up after Coaster Mania...
Yes, it's the annual reference to "Potato Salad Suprise" :)

I was kind of expecting you to make it first. What are you doing at work, working?

...Which the following year was instead, "Surprise, no potato salad!"

Who will be at CoasterMania '05...
...but who will NOT be getting to the Po!nt at 4:30am!
You know, they really weren't even that bad yet as of last night.

Definately not terrible last night, although my car's windshield would beg to differ. Anyone who caught the night ERT on Maxair could smell those things cooking on the hot lights that shine on the ride. They rank among one of the most vile smells I've experienced when heaps of them are roasting on the ride lights in the park. Doesn't help that you can hear them sizzle as well.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I was just at Cedar Point participating in the fun filled day of Coastermania and let me tell you, those darn little muffleheads were everywhere. Especially in Frontiertown with all the shrubs and trees. But it got really bad toward the night when we had ERT on MaXair because of all the lights. Man it looked like a massve cloud of bugs and when we walked by the lights of the ride while waiting in the queue area, we could actually see a small stream of smoke coming from the lights because the bugs were being "cooked" alive and they smelled like burning hair. Nastyness pure nastyness. Just wait a few more weeks then the so called Mayflies come and they are worse. I am from Michigan and we call them "Fishflies" because in my opinion, they smell like fish. Well anyways, goodluck to all of you riding rides with those darn tootin bugs.
