Islands around the Point

This topic stray's a tad bit off of the Cedar Point subject, but since they are located very near, I thought I would start a thread to see what everyones thoughts and experiences have been if you have ever taken a boat cruise to the islands (Pelee, Kelleys & the 3 Bass islands)?

I, personally have not been to the islands since I was very little, and have been pondering an extended stay, so I can go revisit the islands again. What are the attractions like out there?

absolutely nothing.... The only Island worth going to is Put-In-Bay. And that itself is just a winery, some shops, and a couple resturaunts. That can be done in 3 hrs. So I wouldn't even bother.
try pondering this... Instead of going to the islands. take a drive to the Toledo Zoo. Get some fresh air walking around, and look at exotic animals.
Just my suggestions though

Cashcontrol96, maybe you should go back to Put-In-Bay for a second look. The Lake Erie Islands are just wonderful! Put-In-Bay is the party capital of the Great Lakes. There are more bars by the town square than you can count on both hands. Lots of really good entertainment. Not to miss are entertainers like Mike "Mad Dog" Adams who plays about every second weekend at the Roundhouse Bar. Put-In-Bay can keep you entertained for the entire weekend! Visit www.put-in-bay.com for the official site and www.putinbay.com for the unoffical site for more information. Check it out!
If you want a fun outing with a friend or two over night, try Put-in-Bay. They have tent and RV camping on the island. When I last spent the night there, I think it was only $15. per night for a tent site. Don't know the rates for RV's though. If you are over 21 (which will be me this summer) this opportunity is even better with all of the bars just 5 minutes away from the campsite. You can also bring your car onto the island via the Miller Ferry which I think is $25 round trip. If you want to do any swimming in the lake, BE PREPARRED! There are only two beaches available on the island for public swimming; next to the Perry Monument (which is never clean) and next to the campsite (which is all gravel). If you want to swim bring aqua shoes, or your feet will kill you walking all over the stones. Legend has it that there are occasionally harmless water snakes around the island that will not bother you, although I have never encountered one. One last thing, if you go to any of the bars, makes sure you stop by Dailey's. The king of Put-in-Bay, Pat Dailey, owns Dailey's. Pat also performs at the Beer Barrel Saloon and his show is excellent if you like Jimmy Buffett(sp?) style music (which if Pat heard me compare him to Jimmy, I think he would be pretty made). You probably pick up a schedule from the Barrel when Pat performs.

If you would like more info, I put together a section on my personal site about the Cleveland/ Lake Erie area. Click your way back until you get to Put-in-Bay.

I like the islands. Put-in-Bay is best in the spring or fall when it isn't so crowded and I kind of like Middle Bass too. I have had some nice afternoons riding bikes with friends on Middle Bass. I noticed more and more cheap and ugly development going on there this year and I assume that will continue, which is too bad. North Bass is owned by Paramount Distilling (a Cleveland company that owns Firelands, Mon Ami, Mantey and Lonz wineries) and is private. It is not usually accesable but you can visit it in the fall when boats are hauling the grapes from North Bass to Sandusky. If nothing else, the trip form island to island can be great day.
