Is the drop really worth all the hype?

MF has a 300 foot "drop" but looking at the pictures, it starts coming out of it's whole 50 feet of 80 degree drop less than halfway down the hill. It starts coming out of the drop at the level of the cross member, which I believe was at around 190 feet or so.

It looks that the true drop of 80 degrees is only 50 to 75 feet long,if that, the rest is that huge crest of the hill and the leveling out at the bottom "3/4 of the way down). I saw this in the original ride diagram and didn't like it and still don't like it, either they should have made the thing even higher to get a longer drop or made it level out later, but that probably would have increased the g's and reduced speed. Oh well, I guess it still looks pretty cool, it's kind of like Demon Drop being a "free fall" ride, it is free fall for 20 feet, then begins to angle out of the drop.
All I have to say is, to avoid g forces, it's gotta angle out sometime. And it's probably safer this way. If they went with a true 80-90 degree drop like Alton Towers, they'd run the OTSR risk, and g*d knows we don't want that.

I just didn't think the angle out would be halfway down the hill, to me it's nothing more than a 150 foot drop, not a 300 foot drop.
Well Rob all I can say is that the drop on S:ROS is 80 degrees and I will admit that I like it better than the drop on Magnum. All I can say is that I can't wait to add 105 feet to that drop. That drop will be the best drop on any coaster ever built!

Actually, Dan, SRoS' drop isn't 80º. The park said it was 70º, but then someone posted that the designer of SRoS, Wernel Stengel, had it at 78º. Personally, it looks as though MF's drop is significantly steeper, so I'm guessing 70º. But the designer said 78º. Who knows. :) Anyway, while I LOVE SRoS and its drop, I still think both B&M hypers' drop beat out SRoS'. It's all in the breakover at the top. SRoS' and MF's look way to gradual when compared to Raging Bull or Apollo's Chariot. Time will tell which is the better drop though!

The pullout is what it is so your eyeballs don't get sucked into your feet at the bottom. That drop has more feet of straight track than any coaster I've ever seen.

Can you really over-hype a 300-foot drop?

Rob, I suggest that you avoid passing judgement on that drop until you've ridden down it.

One thing I have learned is that what a coaster looks like does not always tell you what it feels like. Just look at Magnum. Visually one of the least interesting rides on the planet. But when you're sitting in the train and coming over some of those hills you can understand that it is truly one of the best coasters around.

I've seen Scott's pictures and I swear that thing just looks.....bent!

Rob, I guarantee when you are at the crest of the hill, ready to go down 310 feet, you won't be saying "this is nothing more than a 150 foot hill". I have a friend who grew up in Sandusky. She went back home on New Year's Day and saw MF up close. She said she about dropped when she saw it. I can't wait!
MF is a gives you a total illusion when you see it on a picture unless you have seen it in person. Until you put a person next to the ride you cann't even see how huge it is. On the site there is a photo of the top and I can say I am scared to death. When are roller coasters to tall??? just kidding but I am still scared and I have to ride in the back.

...We hope you have a great day here at Cedar Point America's Rockin' Roller Coast
You look at any coaster (except Oblivion), and the amount of track that is at the maximum angle is always fairly small compared to the entire hill. Just look at Magnum. I know the first time I saw a profile picture of the Magnum, I thought that the hill looked a lot less steep then it does while riding.
I don’t think anyone will be complaining about the MFs first hill after riding it.

gotta agree about Raging Bull and MF...but when you are watching the Bull, it doesn't LOOK that steep, but when you are on it,WHHHOOOO HOOOO, straight down!!! and on Magnum, i always felt the SECOND hill was steeper than the first drop!!! but Maggy, in general, is FULL of surprises like that. MF probably will be too. it's almost scary to think what MF would be like if it was a B&M....

I'm really glad MF in NOT a B&M. I don't think hypers/gigas should have four across seating, it takes too much of the open feeling away. I bet riders will feel very vulnerable when riding MF, due to the open design of the cars and the narrow width due to two across seating. Also, B&Ms feel too controlled, not wild enough. I think Intamin did a great job with this ride and is ahead of B&M in the hyper/giga game.
i dunno, Pete....Raging Bull is pretty open...but i am glad that MF is not 4 across, that's for sure. i was thinking more in terms of how consistently AWESOME B&M's are, from iron Wolf all the way down the line...there's just something about them that's really extra special. not that MF won't be REALLY EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA special...LOL!!! ;)

In response to the original post.
Your right Rob H. all the hype is much todo about nothing. If I were you I'd stay home and go no where near Sandusky during the summer of 2000. Stand up for your rights, don't be duped by some high priced marketing effort. (end of sarcasam)
I hope you are not serious, I have seen the ride in person and it looks like nothing you have ever witnessed. I believe the length of the drop will be plenty long enough for all thrill seekers. Remember half of CP's charm is the location; is there even another building in Sandusky let alone Erie County which is 31 stories high?
HOLY COW!!! I just relized thats taller than those T.V./Radio intenas!

I will complain about the hill. "THAT THING WAS TO HIGH AND TO STEEP, I THOUGHT THEY WOULD SCALE IT DOWN".

I mentioned this once before. I look at this ride as a destorted Magnum first hill.(shorter in length, taller in height) One thing I am wondering is how many "G"s that first low, low, turn is going to pull.

we all know that it is in fact a 150 foot drop (with another 150 foot drop immediately following it) :)

i will never complain about having the huge gradual curve downward into the first drop... in fact i prefer coasters like that because to me the fear and thrill comes from seeing the track curving away from you... not being able to see where it goes... not knowing when it will straighten out...
it brings back memories of being a kid in the winter going sledding down the hill... my favorite hill was the one that curved down gradually instead of the one that started out steep right away.

In a previous post here on CP Place Jeff mentioned the fact that MF was as tall as his building. Well I visited Jeff and Tim today and I took a few minutes just looking up at the building with a huge smile on my face.
