Is the corkscrew leaving

I know, I know, this is speculation from basically a nobody...but does it make sense?

Only one corkscrew is leaving?! I hope they keep the better one.

I heard they are going to give it the Steel Phantom treatment, removal of the inversions. The new ride will be called Corkscrew's Revenge, and have zero inversions.

wish it were true though. I know it's a good starter ride for young teens and such, but it HURTS your back and the sharp jolts make your jaw slam the shoulder rest. When I was 12 I rode for the first time and it hurt my back and neck. Wild mouse is a great new comfy family ride that the park needed and for kids starting out on coasters.

I say start em out on the Magnum. That's what we did back in my day, and we loved it that way.

I was privileged to be one of the first "general public" persons to see The Corkscrew. It was the spring before it opened, and I was up there for a school newspaper/yearbook conference. We were taken in small groups to the loading platform of the north Sky Rides station. An official explained how the trains would traverse the track. I guess we couldn't have figured that out on our own. He said he had no engineer on site that day but if he did, they would run some empty trains through. We were all given a real nice press kit for the coaster.

Was SkyRide running that day? Just joking, it sounds like a nice experience for you.

Corkscrew has such a small footprint I'd be very surprised if it goes anywhere for space-related reasons. That being said, it does seem like a good number of higher-complexity Arrows are starting to age out mechanically, though I don't imagine Corkscrew would have had nearly the amount of structural wear and tear as the later megaloopers that have all but vanished.

A lot of people said the same thing about Wicked Twister and it had a much smaller footprint. Granted, Corkscrew’s up time is probably higher and maintenance costs much lower. However, just because it doesn’t take up much room does not mean the ride couldn’t use a revamp or replacement. The Corkscrews are visually iconic as they go over the midway. The ride itself sucks though.

No, but we got to stand on the loading deck which was close enough.

I think the solution is to keep the corkscrews as an art installation, like Alton Towers did with theirs. In the meantime, the space left by removing the bulk of the ride and the nearby flats that got moved to the boardwalk could be used for something compact- a nice new larger flat, perhaps?

Is this ride as rough as they say? Carolina cyclone at Carowinds is also a bit of a head banger/neck breaker(the loop is too tight).

I enjoy Corkscrew whenever I'm at the park if the line isn't very long. Good airtime hill and I usually keep my head back and hold on and enjoy the whole ride.

Both Corkscrew and Carolina Cyclone are rough but I'd say the Cyclone is worse. Like Vince said, keep your head back and hold on, if you do not the corkscrew can hurt!

The old style OTSRs can bash the crap out of your ears and leave you with a massive headache if you don't know how to ride defensively. If you wear earrings of any sort I'd take them off if you want to ride- same goes for Raptor and Rougarou.
