Is Gemini on the endangered list??

don't know WHY this post didn't show up...

suffice it to say that i heard a rumor that Gemini is history to make room for the new 415-foor coaster. i say "BULL-PUCKEY"!!

anyone else heard this supposedly one-year-old rumor??

of course, considering the the location of the mysterious "footers"...

Nah. they's never do that...not remove the capacity king for something with maybe HALF that...

BTW, my TR is coming soon. back to work today tho. yuck.

Where did this come from?
The park is presently in the middle of a 3-year program to replace all of the lumber on Gemini.

I don't think they would do that if they were planning to take it out anytime soon. :)

Also if your looking to regain the highest coaster in the world. 415 Ft. will be too short. I recall hearing that Intamin is making one for some other country around 450-470 ft. And someone correct me on those figures. I don't remember the exact height but I thought it was around that high. So you would have to have 500 ft. or higher, or in my mind why even bother, if your trying to retake the highest coaster in the world.

You are correct Rideman. Servo, next time you ride Gemini, take a look @ the ground by the helixes (sp) & just in general the area within the structure, you'll see a bunch of wood that is going to replace some of the older, origional stuff.

I remember hearing an interview with Dick Kinzel, I think it was the Discovery "Largest Amusement Park" show, where he said Gemini is one of the most successful coasters ever installed at CP. I don't think you have to worry about the future of Gemini.

A 500-foot coaster at CP? Never happen. They don't have the space required for the footprint a coaster of that size would take up.

Exactly. I agree with Pete.

Take a ride on the Gemini lately? Sure CP has WT, MF and Magnum, but Gemini is still a blast. After riding those other rides and then coming back to Gemini you forget how fun that ride is and it is always surprising.

Sure they do ... they can just run it out into the lake ...

Actually, the planned coaster over in Germany at Heide park was supposed to be 412ft. Btu the park couldn't get the clearance to build one that big. Evidently, a park in the US has bought the plans for the ride. I'm not sure how accurate the info about a US park buying it though.

Snoopy Rocks! On Ice starts June 22--Do you think they'll let me drive the Zamboni machine?

I want to drive the Zamboni!

They would never get rid of Gemini. I shouldn't say never, but I find it extremely unlikely.
Well, nothing lasts forever. Eventually a lot of coasters at CP will go, but I don't see Gemini going anytime soon. Everytime I ride this coaster I forget how good it is, how superior it was before Magnum.
I don't think you need to worry about them tearing out Gemini. As for a 500 foot full circuit at CP? Doubt it. Why? They've already got 2 hypercoasters. They don't need a third. If they build another huge coaster, I predict it will be a huge looper of some sort, either 4D, floorless, or sit-down. CP is not going to build a new height smasher ever few years just to have the tallest in the world. They may eventually go for a huge hyper/giga that's in the 450-500 foot range, but I'd say not for at least 10-15 years, and probably not a straight hyper layout...it'll have inversions or something so it separates itself from Maggie and MF.

CP easily has enough room to build a 400-500ft tall coaster...it would not go that much faster than MF.

Of course I don't believe they will, but they have the room if they wanted to.

Most likely they'll take a year off from the coaster upgrades, and possibly come back with a new coaster for the 2004 season. Sure, it'll be a record breaker, but I don't believe it'll be a traditional coaster. Look at how long it was between Magnum and MF. They'll probably build some type of launched coaster, or 4d coaster, or inverted or flying coaster, that will be the largest of it's type, but nowhere near 400ft tall.

Sheesh, look what I started. Now I never said there getting one. Let me put it this way.

Lets just say I am one of the main people in P&D or Mr. Kinzel...whatever. If my goal is to regain the tallest coaster in the world. It would have to be higher then 412 feet since there may be one that high like CP_bound said. Now is there room at CP, or will they do it. I don't know, I don't care now. Because I am not CP. All I meant to say was it seems logical to go higher the the highest designs out there now to retake the highest coaster.

Look at it this way Jman. CP broke 100 ft. in 1978 with Gemini. 11 years later came Magnum, and 11 years after that was MF. See a pattern to the height record breakers? I'd put my money on 400 ft. in 2011, although I'd like to see a 400 footer before then.

Edit: For the record, I'm sure Gemini won't be going anywhere soon.
