We've been to Cedar Point many times but have never purchased one of the dining plans. We're thinking of going for 2 days in August but the first day we wouldn't be arriving at the park until about 2 p.m. so I figure there's no sense in getting it that day. I was thinking of getting the all day dining plan for the next day, though, and was wondering if it's worth the cost and also how convenient it is as far as the locations of the restaurants throughout the park.

The dining plans are extremely worth the price.
Once you purchase the plan you can get a full meal anywhere in the park every 90 minutes if you really wanted to eat that often. I look at it this way I usually eat twice in the park, and a meal is roughly 15 bucks on average at most places. So if you eat twice it's paid off. However if you wanted a snack or something here or there, or a plate of food on the way out, it's all paid off at that point.
However do note this doesn't include a fountain drink. You can opt for a cup of water at no cost, but if you wanted a Coca Cola or other pop you'd have to pay. A way around this purchase with each meal is to get a souvenir cup. Do note though with that a single cup is around $15.00 in the park as well for just one, and gets cheaper as you purchase more cups. For this cost to break even you need at least three drinks during your day in the park, after that it does work itself out for the day.
If you purchase the plan online it's $29.99 and you can get the cup for $10.99 +Tax/Fees. You can see all of this here: https://www.cedarpoint.com/ticket-category/Meal-Deals
Best of luck and have fun!
