The rumor is that the 3rd train has been ditched because too many guests complained that they felt hurried when loading onto the ride.
I posted this somewhere else before, but we used to say that we could do homework on Iron Dragon because of how mellow it was. The last 2 times I was at the park though it was actually a fun ride. I thought it was just different because I hadn't been on a coaster in a very long time.
LOL at guests feeling hurried. Can't wait until they decide to do that to Magnum too. Talk about dumb reasoning. I was thinking maybe a parts shortage or something but sheesh, now I've heard it all.

As a "guest of extreme size," I'm glad it's still around--it's one ride I can actually fit comfortably in. And my girls love it, too. Although I do miss 3 train operation--I never felt rushed on it.
Now, if it just hadn't taken the place of my beloved Western Cruise. (I know, I know...over 25 years ago.)
That's another thing that was bad about the restraint change on BlueStreak. It used to be one of the rides larger guests couldfit in well.
Several reasons it was removed...some reasons made sense, some sounded like it was accurate but no proof so meh...
It was running three pre season 2011, 2011 season it ran two, it's now halfway through 2013 and still running two, I don't think it's coming back

Was it? I could have sworn it was still two train op

I remember 3 trains running last year as well.
The third train is under the station right now, there have been some days it would've been nice if it was out on the course.
Whats the blocking issue with 3 trains running and stacking? Doesn't the train on the 2nd lift just stop until the block before the station clears? Or does someone have to run out there and reset the lift when that occurs?

They already "fixed" that on Magnum by moving (or duplicating) the safety brake release button at the back of the platform so no one has to run out underneath the lift anymore to release the safeties. They could easily do the same thing on Dragon.
I wish they wouldn't have bothered on Magnum because it seems like on Magnum these days, they don't really care that much if they set up (and even less about missing interval). It used to be not only running out to the lift, but we'd also have to call in to park op and wait for a supervisor to call back and we'd tell them what happened before we could even restart the ride. We avoided set ups like the plague. We'd sometimes go a couple days without having one. Now they probably have dozens per day. Not sure why mediocrity is okay in operations these days. I like some of the things the park has done in the past few years, but operations are not as strong as they used to be.

On rides like Iron Dragon and Corkscrew, how do they get the train back up to track level from beneath the station. Do they just do a reversed pull through or something else?
The have a winch and attach the cable to the back of the train.
